Story
Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

Not blown away

The narration on this audio book was really good but something about the story was a little off-putting to me. I really wanted to love this book but I just didn't.
The characters were interesting and very well developed but the story gets very bogged down in minutia and extraneous detail, making it a difficult listen for me. I almost purchased the sequel just to find out what happened to the characters but I wasn't confident that I would sit through it.

Story
Shots rang out in Savannah's grandest mansion in the misty, early morning hours of May 2, 1981. Was it murder or self-defense? For nearly a decade, the shooting and its aftermath reverberated throughout this hauntingly beautiful city of moss-hung oaks and shaded squares. John Berendt's sharply observed, suspenseful, and witty narrative flows like a thoroughly engrossing novel, and yet it is a work of nonfiction.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!
I am a huge fan of Savannah and have visited there several times. This book completely embodies the charm, sweetness, and spice that pervades Savannah culture!
The narration is excellent. The characters are thoughtfully developed, endearing, and well-rounded and the story is incredibly engaging.
I was so sad when this title ended, I immediately went and watched the movie! I highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of period fiction, Southern culture, mystery, or just good books!

In Why Not Me?, Kaling shares insightful, deeply personal stories about falling in love at work, seeking new friendships in lonely places, attempting to be the first person in history to lose weight without any behavior modification whatsoever, and believing that you have a place in Hollywood when you’re constantly reminded that no one looks like you.

Disappointed

I was super excited to listen to this book but it just didn't live up to the hype for me.
I have always found Mindy Kaling to be super funny but the book overall fell a little flat on that note. I definitely chuckled here and there but overall, I found the stories to be unrelatable and a little off-putting and her narration seemed like she was always delivering a punch-line.
I think it's cool that Kaling is able to be so candid, but it just wasn't for me.

Perfect for kids and adults alike!

Dustin Hoffman is the perfect narrator for this whimsical and heart wrenching classic. His narration is silly enough to be enjoyed by children but doesn't seem in the least condescending or irritating, in the way so many children's audio books can.
I purchased this book for a 3 year old who is incredibly high-energy and he will sit or play quietly while he listens to this on repeat! He will even ASK to listen to it! I highly recommend it for any child and to any parent who wants 15 minutes of quiet without having to plop their child in front of the TV.
Audio books are a great way to introduce your children to the world of reading and spoken word and this classic book is an excellent place to start!

Great listen for Moriarty fans!

This is the second Liane Moriarty book I've listened to and I was not disappointed. Moriarty presents her characters with real, emotional, and extreme issues while filling their lives with the mundane occurrences, responsibilities, and choices all adults must endure.
I was instantly hooked on the characters and the plot in The Husband's Secret and Caroline Lee's narration adds an additional layer of truth, humor, and authenticity to the story. These two are a great match and I highly recommend this title to any fan of fiction!
