Excellent reporting and analysis
Reviewed: 09-21-22
This is the kind of podcast we need, one that centers victims and survivors with appropriate and necessary analysis.
I'm also a listener of Crime Analyst and Real Crime Profile, which are also excellent.

Missed opportunity for education
Reviewed: 09-09-22
Some episodes provide an interesting look into psychology and patterned behavior, and ultimately power and control. However I do think that the language around abuse of children and sex trafficking needs to be much clearer. This was a missed opportunity to educate the public with accurate sex trafficking terminology. For example a victim isn't "pimped out," they are trafficked. It also needs to be made clear that there are many women traffickers and buyers, and it is not exclusive to circles of elite men. Sex trafficking happens in all different economic situations and places. It's also important to include resources for victims, survivors, and for people to report.

Story
Panic is a legendary game played by graduating seniors in the middle-of-nowhere town of Carp, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher: After a series of challenges ranging from sleeping in a haunted house to running across a highway blindfolded, one winner takes home a cash prize in the tens of thousands at the end of the summer. Participating players are sworn to secrecy, which means little is known of Panic’s history. Until now.

I enjoyed this short story. Was an easy listen but kept me interested. It's dark and melancholic with a tone that matches the setting that the main character describes.

Sri Lankan-born Dilruk Jayasinha is one of the most in-demand headliners on the Australian scene. His small-screen star continues to soar thanks to his appearances in Utopia and Have You Been Paying Attention? but it is on stage that the full breadth of his talent is most obvious. A positive, upbeat stand-up, he’ll leave you feeling better about yourself and the world.

Loved the narration by Emma Thompson, but less excited about the actual writing and story. I found myself mostly just translating the ornate language as I listened. The performance helped to make the story clearer.

I liked the story painted for us through interviews and song. I learned a lot about Sheryl's life and some of the perspectives she's gained. I especially liked her insights about realizing our intrinsic worth, challenging perfectionism, embracing change, and being authentic to ourselves. This recording brought me reflections into my own life. I would recommend giving it a listen.

It was very interesting hearing about this story from a survivor of the incident. I liked the context he gave, humbly stating his positionality in the group. The narration in between interview material sounded too robotic to me, but everything else was good and compelling, and I learned a lot.

Incredibly Powerful Story
Reviewed: 07-20-20
Incredible story shared from Cyntoia's own perspective and in her voice. It is so moving to hear the whole timeline of her experience, the systems that overlooked what it is like to be a Survivor of sexual violence and trauma, how she evolved and grew as a person while navigating these systems. I learned so much from Cyntoia and look forward to continuing to learn about the issues she advocates for. I could listen to this book many times. I'd highly recommend anyone to get this book and share it with others.
