Story
To master anything, one must first master themselves–one’s emotions, one’s thoughts, one’s actions. Eisenhower famously said that freedom is really the opportunity to practice self-discipline. Cicero called the virtue of temperance the polish of life. Without boundaries and restraint, we risk not only failing to meet our full potential and jeopardizing what we have achieved, but we ensure misery and shame. In a world of temptation and excess, this ancient idea is more urgent than ever.

Very brief surface warnings of the nature you’d get from a paid advertisement. No specifics. Cannot even compare with a Slott book on the same subject.

Evy, maybe you should have asked that publisher more about what she didn’t like rather than just what she did like Find improvements in criticism rather than just looking to convince a publisher to like you next time.

Too much like snippets intended to sell the headset the author’s company sells. Just think if insurance would pay for these how well we would do. The potential in brain science is good but this book commercializes it a bit too much in my brain.

Story
The tipping point is that magic moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire. Just as a single sick person can start an epidemic of the flu, so too can a small but precisely targeted push cause a fashion trend, the popularity of a new product, or a drop in the crime rate. This widely acclaimed bestseller, in which Malcolm Gladwell explores and brilliantly illuminates the tipping point phenomenon, is already changing the way people throughout the world think about selling products and disseminating ideas.

"Correlation does not imply causation". This mantra has been invoked by scientists for decades and has led to a virtual prohibition on causal talk. But today, that taboo is dead. The causal revolution, sparked by Judea Pearl and his colleagues, has cut through a century of confusion and placed causality - the study of cause and effect - on a firm scientific basis.

When I heard the book rivaled Kahneman Fast and Slow I bought. Not even close. You can’t just listen. Too many equations, graphs and complex statistics. Then the self aggrandizing attitude and ad hominem attacks on prior statisticians is a complete turnoff.

If you’re interested in the subject don’t waste your money. Get Thinking Fast and Slow. The science and relevance there are PhD level compared to Influence’s elementary sometimes unsupported conclusions and strange call for pugnacious retribution. That was odd.
