Story
As a medical examiner, Serena Hopkins is used to dealing with death. But that doesn't make it any easier when she's called to the eerie scene of a murder - especially when Serena realizes that she knows the victim. Nearly as unnerving is the presence of FBI agent Dominic Allen, her childhood crush. As evidence mounts and points to a serial killer with disturbingly familiar methods, Serena and Dominic must work to find a pattern and stop the killings before the murderer strikes again.

Story is excellent tho, worth the listen.

I've bypassed this book several times because I was never a fan of the TV series based on this book. . Don't let the TV version influence you, the book has little in common with it.
The emotions this story invoked were so intense, several times I found myself laughing hysterically, and then sobbing with grief. In the end, I truly felt I'd become friends with Mrs. Mike.
This is a story that I will definitely be re-visiting more than once!

This is not an easy read, it's heart wrenching and quite dark at times. The author has done a remarkable feat, delving into the horrific past of a bizarre but lovable woman.
Laural Merlington does a great job at narration. The emotions come through loud and clear.
I just had to get the rest of the books in the sequel. If the others are as compelling as this 1st one, it won't be time wasted.

An enjoyable YA for the "older" generation

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Sure, it's an easy listen with entertaining values.
What other book might you compare The Complete Lake Series to and why?
The 1st book had similarities to Twilight in the sense that it was love at 1st sight, and the target of her affection was so beautiful. Thankfully, that was lost in book 2 as the story picked up its own direction.
Any additional comments?
It was good that I got the entire series with one credit. Had I used the credit for the 1st book alone, I would have returned it and missed out the remaining 3 books. The story develops quite nicely and even though it ends predictably its still an interesting journey to get there.

I am not a fan of westerns, this was my husbands choice. That being said, I have to admit that I'm hooked.
It's so well written, I could understand the 2 young men's reasoning and reactions to different situations. The story has a lot of meat on the bones and it's easy to sink your teeth into it. LOL! I'm actually looking forward to see what happens next in this series.
BTW... my husband loved this book, and the fact that he could discuss it with me during and after the listen. We will definitely be getting into the next book.
