Story
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Road trip fuel
Reviewed: 05-19-23
We started this while on a cross country road trip of the USA. It was fascinating (if not a bit frightening) to be driving long the same roads described in the story amidst the pandemic (captain tripps!?!)
Thoroughly enjoyed the story although it did not go where either of expected. That’s not a bad thing. We did not realize before purchase that this was an extended version, but wouldn’t have wished for any less detail.
Following “It”, The Dome” and “Cell”, the dome still reigns supreme. This ranks second for us!

Story
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

This is such an engaging story to listen to already, but the narration here is wonderful! The reader’s acting really put you into the story, and does a great job at making each person sound unique!

Story
Martha Macnamara knows that her daughter, Elizabeth, is in trouble; she just doesn't know what kind. Mysterious phone calls from San Francisco at odd hours of the night are the only contact she has had with Elizabeth for years. Now, Elizabeth has sent her a plane ticket and reserved a room for her at San Francisco's most luxurious hotel. Yet she has not tried to contact Martha since she arrived, leaving her lonely, confused, and a little bit worried. Into the story steps Mayland Long, a distinguished-looking and wealthy Chinese man who lives at the hotel and is drawn to Martha's good nature and ability to pinpoint the truth of a matter.

Story
The first two limbs of the eight-fold path of yoga sutras - the basic text for classical yoga - are examined in this spiritual guide to the practice of yoga. Foundational to all yogic thought, they are considered to be the guidelines to the yoga way of living that free individuals to take ownership of their lives, direct them toward the fulfillment they seek, and gain the skills to choose attitude, thought, and action.

The chilling novella featured in Stephen King's New York Times best-selling short story collection Full Dark, No Stars - soon to be a Netflix original film starring Thomas Jane and Molly Parker. A violence awakens inside a man when his wife proposes selling off the family homestead, setting in motion a grisly train of murder and madness.

The reader’s voice is fine
Reviewed: 01-10-22
I understand why the reader of the book might not be for everybody, but I thought he did a great job of distinguishing the male voices so you could always understand who was talking. I didn’t find the women’s voices grating and thought Arlette was suitably played. Great story too! Highly recommend.
