Story
And Then We Rise is about Common’s journey to wellness as a vital element of his success. A testimony to the benefits of self-care, this book is composed of four different sections, each with its own important lessons: "The Food" focuses on nutrition. "The Body" focuses on fitness. "The Mind" focuses on mental health. And "The Soul" focuses on perhaps the most profound thing of all—spiritual well-being.

Giving White Feminism…

Although the author intends to dive deep into an “inclusive” approach by speaking to “people of color”, her analysis lacks a deep and rich analysis around the role of race and culture. When mentioning “Caitlyn Jenner” as a point of reference for transgender oppression, sister lost me. White feminism is NOT the way forward. We need (and want) richer and more complex analysis…

This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

After watching Will Smith interview with Oprah, I thought this would be the best book since "Assata". However, the first couple of chapters felt lackluster. Because it's Will Smith and because I'm so Hip-Hop and into his progressive approach to life, I decided to move forward. What can I say?! The audio book only gets better as it moves forward in the narrative! I LOVE that he includes families, friends, fears, films and all other "f" words. It's amazing! I'm completely inspired, and most of all, I feel affirmed in my humanity! The sound effects, editing and audio animation are brilliant!

First, there are so many podcasts hosted by folks who aren’t artists interviewing artists and the knowledge-base isn’t always present. The beautiful thing about musicians interviewing musicians (esp. Hip Hop heads) is that there’s a certain depth that is unmatched. Common building with Nas is brilliant, warm and insightful. Best Nas interview I’ve ever heard. Peace!

For a second, I thought Puff was following me from one brand to the next! Audible though? Embarrassingly enough, I chuckled at the notion of a “Can’t stop, Won’t stop” pop culture celebrity guiding an effective meditation. It resonated like a PR move; a “good” career opportunity. However, I decided to give it a try because I know that we’re all capable of being transformative and at times, there’s blessings found in the most shocking nouns. This is by far one of them! I LOVE it! It’s impactful! I played it last night and it turned out to be brilliant; a magnificent manifestation of space, intentionality and stillness. I’m thankful I trusted my Spirit on this. I plan to use it again tonight!

Story
"We were eight years in power" was the lament of Reconstruction-era Black politicians as the American experiment in multiracial democracy ended with the return of white supremacist rule in the South. Now Ta-Nehisi Coates explores the tragic echoes of that history in our own time: the unprecedented election of a Black president followed by a vicious backlash that fueled the election of the man Coates argues is America's "first White president".
