Waste of money and TIME
Reviewed: 02-23-23
Don't waste your money unless you are thinking about employing the author to help you be more time efficient. He provides plenty of examples of how he's helped others but gives no actual advice to apply in one's own life. This is simply a very long, very repetitive infomercial that costs money to listen to.

Story
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Pronunciation

Well written memoir. It is nice to hear the author tell their own story. The issue that I have is someone born and raised in Appalachia should not pronounce the word as Appa-LAY-shuh. The word and area are pronounced Appa-LATCH-uh.

Story
It was the last-chance moment of the war. In January 2007, President George W. Bush announced a new strategy for Iraq. He called it "the surge". "Many listening tonight will ask why this effort will succeed when previous operations to secure Baghdad did not. Well, here are the differences," he told a skeptical nation. Among those listening were the young, optimistic Army infantry soldiers of the 2-16, the battalion nicknamed the Rangers.
