Story
This six-part comedy series was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1988. Hosted by Stephen Fry, accompanied each week by Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent, Emma Thompson, and a selection of guests including Phyllida Law, Robert Bathurst, Julia Hills, and Alison Steadman, the show takes the form of a roundtable discussion, interspersed with sketches that veer tangentially from the sublime to the ridiculous.

Great!!
Reviewed: 10-31-11
For the first few minutes, I found it difficult to follow the show and almost considered stopping it. However, I kept listening and did not regret it! The comedy genius of Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie shines in this very, very funny show from the late 80s. Be warned that a lot of the humor is based on British culture, history, politics, and radio. Between that fact and the fast pace of the show, it can be difficult to follow. Even though I have spent a lot of time in the UK over the past 20 years, I still probably missed 80% of the gags. Nonetheless, the 20% that I did get had me rolling on the floor.

Story
In Israel and the West, it is called the Six Day War. In the Arab world, it is known as the June War or, simply, as "the Setback". Never has a conflict so short, unforeseen, and largely unwanted by both sides so transformed the world. The Yom Kippur War, the war in Lebanon, the Camp David accords, the controversy over Jerusalem and Jewish settlements in the West Bank, the intifada, and the rise of Palestinian terror are all part of the outcome of those six days.

THE book on the Six-Day War
Reviewed: 09-19-11
After seeing this described everywhere as the definitive book on the Six Day Way, I was a bit apprehensive about buying it as I really don't have the patience for long, drawn out details of battles. My concerns were very quickly dispelled as the book immediately pulls you into the intrigue of international diplomacy, regional politics, and the very human side of the cast of characters involved in this watershed event in Middle East history. The book reads like a thriller while still being complete and accurate in its portrayal of the events of the war. Unfortunately, the narrator, while generally very good does not know how to properly pronounce many of the Arabic and Hebrew words in the original text but this is only a minor annoyance. Overall, highly recommended!

Story
For the first time, comedian Jack Dee reveals the highs and lows of his early life and disastrous day jobs. You don't just wake up jaundiced and bitter; it's taken Jack years of dedication and commitment to brew his unique cocktail of disillusionment and bile. What turned this once optimistic young man into a grumpy middle-aged git? Was it working in an artificial-leg factory?

Intelligent and Funny. Jack Dee is one of the funniest comedians around today. Although the book has a few slow parts, it is more than made up for by the rest.

Story
In this uniquely American memoir, Homer "Sonny" Hickam beautifully captures a moment when a dying town, a divided family, and a band of teenage dreamers dared to set their sights on the stars. Looking back after a distinguished NASA career that fulfilled his boyhood ambition, Hickam shares the story of his youth, taking listeners into the life of the little mining town and the boys who came to embody both its tensions and its dreams.

Great book. Disappointing audio quality
Reviewed: 10-28-09
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's a story of adolescence, of rocket science, and of life in West Virginia mining towns. Beau Bridges' reading is brilliant. Unfortunately, this is only available in Format 2 audio and it sounds like it is being read over an intercontinental phone line. Also, I was disappointed after listening to the book to realize that it is an abridged version. Despite these shortcomings, it is highly recommended!
