Story
Ralph Elllison's Invisible Man is a monumental novel, one that can well be called an epic of modern American Negro life. It is a strange story, in which many extraordinary things happen, some of them shocking and brutal, some of them pitiful and touching—yet always with elements of comedy and irony and burlesque that appear in unexpected places. It is a book that has a great deal to say and which is destined to have a great deal said about it.

Man.... I'm in my car and I have to go from 50/50 to 20/50 depending on the readers enthusiasm. I mean... I get that there will be a rising and falling action to this, but damn optimize the volume a little better.

Story
As a young man, Frederick Douglass (1818-1895) escaped from slavery in Baltimore, Maryland. He was fortunate to have been taught to read by his slave owner mistress, and he would go on to become one of the major literary figures of his time. He wrote three versions of his autobiography over the course of his lifetime and published his own newspaper. His very existence gave the lie to slave owners: with dignity and great intelligence, he bore witness to the brutality of slavery.

Wonderful.

Wonderful. Reading seemed a bit soft spoken at first… a little too sensuous maybe.
But… it didn’t deter me and instead kind of grew on me.
Frederick Douglass deserves many rereadings. What I liked about this biography especially was that it was balanced. It pointed out his moments of weakness and celebrated the many years of strength.
Why do we not have a national holiday in honor of this great man!?

Story
Acclaimed actress Claire Danes burnishes an epic story of heroes, gods, and monsters in a groundbreaking translation of The Odyssey, the first great adventure story in the Western literary tradition. When the wily warrior-king Odysseus sets off for home after the Trojan War, he doesn’t realize this simple undertaking will become a perilous journey of 10 years. Beset at every turn, he encounters obstacles, detours, and temptations—both supernatural and human—while his wife Penelope fends off would-be suitors desperate to take the throne.

Good reading, imo
Reviewed: 01-03-23
Well, I have headphones in because my dear wife said that he sounds terribly boring, but I think this is a pretty good rendition of the Odyssey.
The reading has inflection and emphasis and, unlike my own orations, manages to read at length without yawning. I’ve always struggled with that.
Anyway, good job yall.

Story
Originally published in 1994, this book was a fly-fishing phenomenon in the way Howell Raines' Fly Fishing Through the Mid-Life Crisis was. Taking his fishing hobby to near metaphysical levels, Ted Leeson tells about his passions: rivers, trout, and fly fishing. With wry humor and rare insight, he explores questions that engage most fishermen: What is it about rivers that draws us so irresistibly, and why does fly fishing seem such an aptly suited response?
