Cute for something to listen to around Christmas
Reviewed: 12-26-24
I generally listen to an American narrator. This book however, is narrated by a with a British accent. I feel though I can manage to get over this little insight within the first two chapters. It was a cute and enjoyable Christmas Story. But for some reason, I found the storyline to be lacking to make it have more of an impact within its genre. But for what it was, it was good. Short and sweet book that you can listen to just before Christmas to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Story
Alyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole. She was crowned Queen of the Red Court and faced the bandersnatch. She saved the life of Jeb, the boy she loves, and escaped the machinations of the disturbingly appealing Morpheus. Now all she has to do is graduate high school. That would be easier without her mother, freshly released from an asylum, acting overly protective and suspicious.

Sometimes when you have stories based off retellings of other stories, you can’t think of how the sequel would come about. For me, the second book within a series either make or breaks a series when there is a continuation of the same storyline. The storyline was engaging and continued to peek my interest as each chapter went along. I wanted to see where the story went and how the problems that arose could be solved. There were still twist and turns with the characters and the characters stayed true to who they were from the first book. Because of how this second book ended and how well it captured my attention I am very intrigued to see how the author can continue the story. It’s always curiosity of where the storyline can lead that makes me continue to read a series. And I am very curious about these characters and the new adventures that are gonna follow.

Story
This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of Underland, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers - precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.

This was such an amazing retelling, well not really retelling but an extension of the original Alice Wonderland tale. Taking that story as an inspiration and creating a completely new world filled with adventure but also creating such horror with in the fairytale. The author almost took the original story and created a Brothers Grimm version of the fairytale. It was very detailed in the twists and the turns and the manipulation of the story taking the original characters and making them into something new and interesting. I think it is definitely worth the read especially if you enjoyed the Alice Wonderland movie by Tim Burton. Can’t wait to listen to the second one.

Amazing! Just amazing. The way the author into length the storyline and made the smallest details matter in the end was just so beautifully done. I can’t believe this world is over and the series has come to an end. I got so wrapped up into the story that I could have continued reading Tea’s story indefinitely. However, all good things must come to an end and the ending was perfection. I had goosebumps. I was happy and angry and sad all at the same time. It was a story that is so gripping and so unique. I loved every moment of it.

The detail
Reviewed: 12-12-24
I can tell by listening to this book that the author put a lot of thought into the storyline, into the characters, into the backstory and into the world building. Creating fantasy worlds is sometimes very difficult because you have to think about how things connect and how they come full turn within the story. Continuously mentioning certain things to remind you of the magic that is within the universe such as the heart stones. I loved the details that the author put in to mentioning each person’s heart stone, going into peoples emotions. The story was forever flowing but also the time jumps made sense within the teachings for Tea. Having spoken about her lessons over and over and over again would have created a less harmonious flow to the storyline. Therefore it was very smart to say for several weeks. I did the specific lessons rather than constantly mentioning the lessons over and over like it had been a week. Intrigue at the end of book makes me want to read the second book. I can’t wait to see where Tea’s story continues to go and how the different characters in the story develop and continue along her journey.

The concept of the book was very intriguing, having to fulfill a will in order to get your inheritance. But the world is about marrying someone so that’s the family business stay within the two families. From the gecko, there was definitely chemistry between the two main characters. Their banter was on point. The story line moves along quickly and I loved the way it came full circle. Spice level is a 2.

I just couldn’t. Priests are meant to be very committed to their religious beliefs and their job. However, I found this priest gave up all that he believed in so easily that it became just unbelievable. The storyline didn’t go as I had thought it would. The priest should have been struggling with his thoughts and feelings and would pray harder in order to try keep his religion intact. But this priest in this book gave it up so easily that I just couldn’t. Let me say I am not religious. They should’ve been more of a battle in his head as well as he should not have been swearing the way he was. When you’re reading a book like this, with this type of storyline, you wanted to be as realistic as possible. But I could not get over the fact that he gave up what he believed in so easily.

I'm down to my last dollar. I live day-to-day in a world that doesn't care. Despite my bad luck, I'm a fighter. I never give up. I never stop trying. Ryan Parker's wealth and generosity set him apart from anyone I know. Yet, I don't trust him. It's nothing personal. I trust no one. But when my bad luck takes a turn for the worse, one person shows up. Ryan Parker. I do not understand why he bothered because the guy has enough of his own issues to deal with. But I don't have a choice. I need him. It's a matter of survival. His friendship changed everything. It changed me.

Really enjoying this series
Reviewed: 09-11-24
I really enjoyed the first book, so I decided to give the second book ago and I’m so glad that I did so. The second book was a complete 180 to the first book, from how it started the relationship between the characters and how the relationship progressed. I was interested throughout the whole book seeing where these two characters would go, seeing how the secondary characters came in and out of their lives. It was overall very intriguing. I would give the spice level a one.

I've never been in love. I've never had an orgasm, but I've faked plenty. I want to experience love. Real, passionate love. I don't want to die. It's funny what blurts out of your mouth when the plane you're on is going down, and I didn't hold back with my seat mate when my plane decided to crash. My hysterical confessions didn't faze the muscular stranger that sat beside me. In fact, he promised if we survived, he'd give me my first orgasm.

I really enjoyed the story the way it started was chaotic, which sort of set the tone for the rest of the book. In a good way. There was drama and intrigue. This almost I want her but don’t want her at the same time sort of push and pull to the relationship between the two main characters. I found that the narrator voice for the main female character was really spot-on, but for the male characters it felt a little bit off. There was a spice level of two.

Obviously going into the story, I knew that it was going to be another mystery. I didn’t know what to expect and what type of mystery it was going to be but I was assuming another unsolved murder. Generally when I start a new series, I only really read the first description of the first book and then go on blind faith that the next books are going to be good and I was not disappointed. The second book in the series was amazing. I really found it so interesting and still having those twisted and turns in there that kept me guessing until the very end. I’m looking forward to reading the book. I found that having the second season of the podcast was really cool and still having those logs and the way the voices changed just really immersed you into the story so well. I was following along in a physical book as well as listening and it was so nice to see in the physical book the logs written out but also great to hear it and bring you that much closer to the characters and the events within the story. I am happy to see how Pip has really grown between book one and book 2 and can’t wait to see how she grows and mature into book 3. I’m also interested to see how her relationship develops between the other characters such as her mum and dad brother and Ravi. All in all really enjoyed it.
