Great ending to the series. But why did he have to die? (spoiler alert)
Reviewed: 12-02-24
The narrator's male voice was not to my taste. Other than that, I really like this ending to the series. The only complaint I have about the story is one of my favorite characters ended up being killed. That would have been a great love story... sigh.

Great Story. Narrator was hesitant
Reviewed: 11-27-24
I both loved and hated this story. It was so gut wrenching and beautiful. However, the narrator hesitated so much that I lost interest in certain areas. I always came back because the story was wonderful, but the narrator was distracting.

Story
Life is hard enough for a teenage girl in 1950s suburbia without having a mother who may—or may not—be a witch. A single mother at that. Sure, she fits in with her starched dresses, string of pearls, and floral aprons. Then there are the hushed and mystical consultations with neighborhood women in distress. The unsavory, mysterious plants in the flower beds. The divined warning to steer clear of a boyfriend whose fate is certainly doomed.

The Best Story!

As a mother of two daughters, I giggled through this whole story. I also have things that my mom would say or do that made sense to me when I became a mother. Now that my mother is back in the same house as me, with my adult daughter acting as her main caregiver, my daughter sees where a bunch of my mannerisms and sayings came from. It's a beautiful thing.

Great story. Sub-standard narrator

I don't want to be mean, but as an English teacher, listening to the narrator fumble and pause was painful at times and distracting. I love how she could pronounce all of the foreign language text, though, and her voice was very pleasant. She just needs to work on the flow of her speech. The story was great. It and the narrator's calming tone of voice were why I finished listening to the book.

I liked how all three of the male main characters are included from the beginning rather than squirrelling them away until its their turn to tell their story. It makes me want to learn what happens to the other two men even more!

Pretty Story

I like that the story didn't follow the old stodgy pattern and didn't end the way others do. I first fell in love at the age of 10. The boy was a year older. I told him I loved him a few years later, but he was interested in someone else. However, he was the kindest of gentleman and said we'd be special partners for the rest of our years. He's always treated me like a sweet friend and he and my husband of over 25 years get along just fine. It was nice to see a girl fall in love so young and be allowed to find her way to it. She had to stand her ground and fight for it, I would have done the same in that situation, but she got it in the end.

Thin line between love and hate. Spoiler Alert

I thought I was in for a regular Neighbor From Hell book, but this was the first one I wanted to turn off and yell at the main male character. "Please tell me you're fucking joking?" !!!! Did the author hold a contest to find out the WORST way for a guy to take a girl's virginity??!! Wherewas the sweet talking and the consent? I really wanted to hit him. I had to remind myself that it was a story and to not judge the author based on one story since I've loved all of the others. Except for their unhealthy obsession with food, this is a great series. Even Duncan redeemed himself.
