Story
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

I got more from this book than I ever imagined
Reviewed: 09-29-21
While I haven't (thankfully) suffered from a physically-triggered trauma, I encountered my own challenges growing up. I found many ideas in the last part of the book that, while best applied in a therapy or group setting, I could still apply to myself. I shall re-listen and I hope to continue to cement the insights.
Sean Pratt does a superb job reading: clear, paced and with the compassion that the author has for humanity.
thank you both.

great story line, bit too much a Detroit woes
Reviewed: 06-09-21
I have lived in Detroit for 33 years and have friends born and raised in Mexican town oh, so I look forward to a book in which the city of Detroit and Mexican Town played a prominent role. there was plenty of both in the book, a lot of social commentary about white flight, and sometimes it felt admit too much. towards middle through end of the book everything balances out and the main story dominates. I am looking forward to read the next book in the series.

epic conclusion that starts a little too campy
Reviewed: 01-15-21
The book starts a bit too light, more like a made for TV book, but slowly becomes a typical Uhtred story. slaughter, strategy, reflection, bravery, fear and friendship.
