Story
Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.

Rich insightful storytelling

This inspiring realistic historical novel helped me see a side of Vietnam I hadn’t previously heard about, except for the portrayal of women in Vietnam on M.A.SH. I can’t imagine what it felt like to be a woman Vietnam Vet and told she wasn’t there because there were no women in Vietnam. I was a young child and haven’t heard much from anyone in my life about the war. Great story.
And what a voice talent!

The voice artist did a beautiful job. She was a pleasure to hear and I marveled at her skill. The story was solid and thought-provoking but not so much that I couldn’t simply enjoy.

Story
Katie’s divorce was, in a word, humiliating. So when her friend Bess offers a fresh start—a resident caretaking job at a nature preserve—Katie accepts. No matter that she’s not exactly a “nature person.” How hard can it be? But from day one, something feels off. Katie’s new farmhouse looks as if the last caretaker barely moved out at all. When a frantic, terrified woman arrives late at night, expecting a safe place to hide, it’s clear caretaking involves way more than Katie bargained for.

Story
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

Should be movie because so many don’t read much, but the book will still be better.

Viola offers a window into her life that’s lets total strangers see and hear with exquisite detail and vulnerability.
Her ability to express truth about tragedy, horror, perfect moments, beautiful people and her work makes this listener want to hear it all over again. Yes again from the beginning.
No other media form like broadcast news, radio, the print news or radio, podcasts or even long documentaries and movies can come close to the exquisite detail she shares.
She includes her humanity, fallibility and dreams alongside her gritty push through uncharted territory. She probably left out a lot, but it’s hard to imagine what she may have left untouched.
And yet, the deep dives don’t feel laborious or overdone. They’re perfect. Any less detail and we wouldn’t grasp the extremes. We need to understand the extremes exist. We need to hear how they’re complex and complicated.
A friend asked her how she climbed out of poverty and … her answer is quite simple and very real. Her answer exemplifies the often bewildering journey one must travel to escape extreme poverty, violence, neglect or abuse.
She never feels sorry for herself and never apologizes for anyone. The transformations found in her story offer so much to consider, especially for those who’ve never been where she’s been.
How she conveys such difficult story without condemnation, apology, or making the reader feel “told” is brilliant.
This listener will listen again, so that her kindness and compassion may echo.

Story
On The Power of Vulnerability, Dr. Brown offers an invitation and a promise - that when we dare to drop the armor that protects us from feeling vulnerable, we open ourselves to the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Here she dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and reveals that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.

Brene Brown teaches from legit research-driven insights and inserts personal experiences to demonstrate where we can show up in life, be seen, and dare greatly so that we can LIVE. She helps her audience with guideposts to light the way and reminds them that we never will arrive at the north star but we can know we are heading in the right direction. Deeply encouraging and freshly insightful. Thanks, Brene.
