Story
Birds of a Feather finds psychologist and private investigator Maisie Dobbs on another adventure in London. It is the spring of 1930, and Maisie has been hired to find a runaway heiress. But what seems a simple case at the outset soon becomes increasingly complicated when three of the heiress’s old friends are found dead. Is there a connection between the woman’s mysterious disappearance and the murders? Who would want to kill three seemingly respectable young women? As Maisie investigates, she discovers that the answers lie in the unforgettable agony of the Great War.

Narration was a bit slow and difficult to listen to. It kind of got on my nerves. I sped it up to 1.2x and that helped.

Given what has happened in the US over the recent years, this book is frighteningly relatable. Loved the way Three Pines was woven into the story.

The newspaper refers to the body only as Victim 2117 - the 2117th refugee to die in the Mediterranean Sea. But to three people, the unnamed victim is so much more, and the death sets off a chain of events that throws Department Q, Copenhagen’s cold cases division led by Detective Carl Mørck, into a deeply dangerous - and deeply personal - case. A case that not only reveals dark secrets about the past, but has deadly implications for the future.

this was an inspirational podcast and also very informative and an interesting mix of history blending the Vietnam war, the NIH, and people who benefited from the NIH at that time and continued to benefit from it today, which basically includes all of us. I had a little trouble getting a new episode started. And because of that I had to restart a couple of the podcasts a couple of times to get on the right one. not sure what's up with that but maybe it's just user error.

If you like character development rather than action or psychological mind games, you will like this book. I really enjoyed it. I like the way the author works in surprises and unexpected twists about the characters into the story that reveal more about who they are.

Story
In 1921, Françoise Frenkel - a Jewish woman from Poland - fulfills a dream. She opens La Maison du Livre, Berlin’s first French bookshop, attracting artists and diplomats, celebrities and poets. The shop becomes a haven for intellectual exchange as Nazi ideology begins to poison the culturally rich city. In 1935, the scene continues to darken. First come the new bureaucratic hurdles, followed by frequent police visits and book confiscations. Françoise’s dream finally shatters on Kristallnacht in November 1938, as hundreds of Jewish shops and businesses are destroyed.

Acting (narration) could be way better
Reviewed: 02-05-20
The vocals (i.e. the acting) of this book is not very good at times. Overall, the actor seems to speak French, but cannot or does not speak English with a French accent. It would really help distinguish between voices if different accents were used, which other actors seem capable of doing. Also, the tone of voice is at times very difficult to listen to. The story is pretty amazing, and I understand that it is kind of like a diary or real life account, so it's understandable that it doesn't always read like a novel. The chronology at the end kind of confused me because the writer makes no mention of a spouse, but the chronology mentions a man in exile who was her husband. I'm still a little confused about that.

Story
"Unvarnished. Funny. Leaving no stone unturned"...So say the publishers about this audiobook I've written. What I say is that this is the story of my life, told as clear as a Texas sky and in the same rhythm that I lived it. It's a story of restlessness and the purity of the moment and living right. Of my childhood in Abbott, Texas, to the Pacific Northwest, from Nashville to Hawaii, and all the way back again. Of selling vacuum cleaners and encyclopedias while hosting radio shows and writing song after song, hoping to strike gold.

My husband and I listened to the book together on long drives and we really enjoyed it, and it made us want to stop and listen to all the musicians referenced in the book such as those who influenced Willie, those he wrote with, and those he has performed with. I love knowing more about Willie's life in his own words, his own story.

At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Story
Late Victorian London. When James Miller, the most respectable of Scottish businessmen, is pulled, dead, from the Thames, his daughter is drawn into an investigation which reveals a whole world of secrets and corruption. Alongside local detective Culley, Catriona’s search for her father’s killer leads all the way to the tragic truth behind the ghostly legend of The Darkwater Bride and the power of her deadly kiss. The Darkwater Bride combines the genres of the Victorian mystery thriller with the equally classic Victorian mode of the ghostly tale.
