About this listen

The Earth is under siege - and no one knows about it because the invaders erase those whom they consume. A handful of men and women stand on the border between the mundane and the magical. They have a special spark of soul - not quite enough to be naturally gifted in spellcraft but greater than the average person, a tiny flame that can ignite incredible potential. They possess the ability to fight back against the Vorid: the ability to become a Contractor.

Daniel Fitzgerald is one of those people, but when duty comes calling he promptly slams the door in its face. He has no illusions of grandeur. He is not someone special. He wants to go to school and study law. And frankly, he doesn't really like people, and he doesn't want anything to do with magic. He just wants to be left alone. But when the entire planet is a battlefield, there is no place to run.

Excellent and Exciting

Well written, superb characterizations, amazing action, page turner story! Right up there with The Bob and The Jumper series. Looking forward to the next installment.

Fantastic book, but hell waiting for the sequel

A fantastic story and read by an amazing narrator! I would only warn that the sequel has been years later than anticipated. The author posted that the sequel, The Prisoner, was completed in January last year (2019)

Luke Daniels always a good performance

Characters are very life like. I can't
wait for next book. No one feels trustworthy outside of main.

Fun and funny!

Great performance and well written. Combine The Magicians with Harry Potter and the Flash rolled up in a book.

Hero who is in like Flint

Another fine myth type of book, but on a serious level. Several hours of character development fluff thru out the book with an ending that leaves you wanting so much more! !!!

Dialogue needs work, but the tale is awesome!

Andrew S. Ball commits several times the authorian sin of repeating what the reader already knows, and the dialogue sits in a putrid mix of the outdated and poorly executed. The tale of Daniel Fitzgerald therefore stands only on the legs of its indelibly intriguing Multiversal concept, and the continual quest to find what each of the characters are up to. The love story is fine, and the story elements carry on their own arcs longer than I expected before they tangled, but the ending, and he story arc itself have me craving the next installment.

Not a masterpiece, but it's a story I can love.
