About this listen

A sharp-witted, debut high fantasy farce featuring killer moat squid, toxic masculinity, evil wizards, and a garlic festival-all at once.

It's bad enough waking up in a half-destroyed evil wizard's workshop with no eyebrows, no memories, and no idea how long you have before the Dread Lord Whomever shows up to murder you horribly and then turn your skull into a goblet or something.

It's a lot worse when you realize that Dread Lord Whomever is . . . you.

Gav isn't really sure how he ended up with a castle full of goblins, or why he has a princess locked in a cell. All he can do is play along with his own evil plan in hopes of getting his memories back before he gets himself killed.

But as he realizes that nothing-from the incredibly tasteless cloak adorned with flames to the aforementioned princess-is quite what it seems, Gav must face up to all the things the Dread Lord Gavrax has done. And he'll have to answer the hardest question of all-who does he want to be?

A high fantasy farce featuring killer moat squid, toxic masculinity, an evil wizard convocation, and a garlic festival. All at once. All in all, Dread Lord Gavrax has had better weeks.

The narrator was great

NO PLOT. The humor was cute and dry. It's a cute book, but I felt like It never went anywhere. It left a lot of unanswered questions.

Fun!

A bit too much introspection, but funny! Satiric and not loaded with sincere cliches. Will read more from this author. Excellent narrator.

Terry Pratchett like humor

Good story, made me giggle like Terry Pratchett's books. A book full of dark wizards, goblins, a random tentacle and an uncommon princess always makes for a good read.

Like a heartwarming D&D campaign

Such a fun story! Well told and performed, interesting story, good characters, cheeky and refreshing twists on fantasy tropes. Highly recommend.

An elixir for collective (U.S.) trauma

This book was my elixir when I lay down to sleep on weekdays, I have to wait for the Adderall to wear off. This book helped me accomplish sleep with a head full of unworldly, humorous thoughts. Keval Shah has mad skills with narration. I don't think I will ever imagine a Dark Wizard, without mentally experiencing Keval Shah's narration. The beginning hooked me, the story just kept pulling me along. The ending was an exceptional dessert. Keeping both narrator and author in mind for future purchases. I'd love if they could feel my appreciation. Thank you.

I feel refreshed

I read the first few pages of this in the book store and knew I needed to get it on audible and I'm so pleased I did. It was a good break between the drama of real life and in fiction. I'm going to be recommending this story to my friends and family immediately. The narrator seemed to have fun with the roles and the writing was funny and thoughtful. If you need a light read and love a redemption story, this is a great book to take your mind off things for a while.

I hope there is another in the works to see more adventures. A wonderful story about remembering who you can be.
