About this listen

When a simple mix-up leaves their father Joe’s estate to Eden, their long-absent mother, Clare and Aaron decide it’s finally time to track Eden down. But it’s been over thirty years since she left their remote outback mining town, and they’ve never heard from her again.

Aaron is dealing with a new marriage that’s currently trapped in immigration limbo, and his teenage daughter Cady is clearly going through a personal crisis of her own. After decades away, Clare has flown home from New York for Joe’s funeral, leaving her high-powered job and her not-quite-fiancé behind for what she thinks will be a short trip.

Neither Aaron or Clare are prepared for a fight for their inheritance against the mother who abandoned them as children. As they dig through years of secrets and lies in their tiny community to uncover the truth about Eden and Joe, will they notice the more immediate danger that threatens their family?

Lots of twists

Surprisingly good listen. It held my interest, it has lots of twists at the end.

Nice easy listening

I enjoyed the multiple voices and viewpoint of the story. Bring up some difficult points, such as loss of mother and predatory behavior of an adult male.

I was expecting more than a potpourri of problems

Semi-spoiler alerts. Based on the reviews I read and the audible category it was in, I was expecting a mystery or a thriller, but was disappointed. It was as if the author decided to take every sensitive subject and address them all so that she could appeal to every demographic… Cheating partner check family drama check date rape check family mystery check. It never went deep into any of the characters. It just was OK. Narration was good.

Entertaining reading with plenty keep you thinking

I enjoyed this book very much. The plot twists were great and kept me wondering at possibilities which did not happen predictably. I, too, am enjoying the visual picture of outback communities from the eyes of Australian authors..

Great but… the ending???

I love this author and have listened to all of her books. I would have loved for her to have spent some more time on the ending about the mom. It was just kind of casually mentioned and the whole plot was built up around it.

Outback’s Wild West w/a Twist…or Two

Very interesting story set in small town in “the middle of nowhere”; nice depiction of the social/family culture in a close knit Australian community. Lots of drama, lots of heart. A good mystery plus so much more-One question: why oh why does EVERYONE refer to Pearlie’s kids as The Princess & The King? Is it an Australian/Filipino thing?? Bothered there wasn’t even the slightest explanation-but maybe that was just me!🤔
