About this listen

It is the fall of 1950. The Marines have made a pivotal breakthrough at Inchon, but a roller coaster awaits them. The bit in his teeth, Douglas MacArthur is intent on surging across the 38th parallel toward the Yalu River, where he is certain no Chinese are waiting for him, while Major Ken McCoy, operating undercover, hears a different story entirely, and is just as intent on nailing down the truth before it is too late. Meanwhile, Brigadier General Fleming Pickering, shuttling between two continents, works desperately to mediate the escalating battle between MacArthur and President Harry Truman, while trying to keep his mind from the cold fact that somewhere out there, his own daredevil pilot son, Pick, is lost behind enemy lines - and may be lost forever.

Before Retreat, Hell! is finished, all their fates will be determined - and for some of them, it will be a bitter pill indeed.

The last and the best...

This was Bill's last and best work of the Corps series... We lost him this year in February... I will miss him very much! Blood & Guts, Sir...

Sorry the saga has to end :(

The Corps series was one of the finest pieces of historic fiction I've read, Period! I'm only sad that it couldn't continue throughout Korea and into Vietnam.
As a veteran of both the AirForce and Army, I served in Europe for the Cold War and on Operation Iraqi Freedom. I have a great admiration for my friends and brothers who proudly wear The Globe and Anchor! Semper Fi!

Oorah

As a former Marine Viet Nam combat veteran I appreciate the story and the way the dialogue was presented. Sounded just like we talked and expressed our pride in being United States Marines. No matter the war, we all think and act in the best interest of the U.S.A. the Marine Corps and our fellow Marines. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Great story and cast of characters. I’d like to imagine the McCoys, Banning’s, and Zimmermans living out their retired lived on Hiltonheasd Island. Hope to revisit either the books or the recordings in the future!

Leaves you hanging at the end

It's W.E.B. Griffin so what's not to love? "Retreat Hell" was excellent in most respects. The audio book presentation was first rate. My biggest peeve with the story is with the M-26. The M-26 is a Pershing, not a Patton. The Patton's were M-46 and M-48 tanks.

great series

Would you listen to Retreat, Hell! again? Why?

I would and will listen to this again and again. this is a great book within a great series. The ending is not up to Griffins normal standards but it is a great book anyway.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

this plot was assume from the first chapter of the first book until the end which had me ordering each book as soon as one was completed. The twist and turns are never ending.

Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?

Ken "Killer" McKoy.. He was an enlisted man that learned his craft from the start and though he was always looked down upon by the regular Marine establishment he always found a way to get the job done. This never say die mentality kept those within his working circle and a select few on the perimeter calling his name when the chips were down and a hard job needed to be done.

If you could take any character from Retreat, Hell! out to dinner, who would it be and why?

MGNY Zimmerman because though he is a man of few words he is robin to Killer in this adventure and without him some of Mckoys feats of daring may not have turned out good. Everyone needs a good number 2 and they do not get the recognition that they should.
