About this listen
When the firefighters of Ladder Company 189 pull Clare's friends out of a blazing cafe, she happily comes to their rescue. As a favor to the men, she visits their firehouse kitchen to teach them the finer points of operating their newly donated espresso machine. But more than their coffee turns out to be hot. Somebody's torching cafes around the city, and firefighters are beginning to die in suspicious ways....
Believing the two events are related, Clare investigates, staking out a five-borough bake sale and sniffing out clues in the pizza joints of Brooklyn. When her detective boyfriend, Mike Quinn, is pulled into the fire of a false accusation, Clare is desperate to put out the flames. But will she be able to come to Mike's rescue before someone tries to extinguish her?

Story
Clare Cosi used to manage the historic Village Blend coffeehouse…until she opted for quieter pastures and a more suburban life. But after ten years and a little friendly cajoling from the owner (a fresh pot of Jamaican Blue Mountain was all it took), she's back to the grind. With a sprawling rent-free apartment directly above the Village Blend, her cat Java by her side, and plenty of coffeehouse redecorating ideas, Clare is thrilled to return to work. Until she discovers the assistant manager unconscious in the back of the store, coffee grounds strewn everywhere.

Miracle Springs is a place of healing. Strangers flock there hoping the natural hot springs, five-star cuisine, and renowned spa can cure their ills. And, if none of that works, they often find their way to Miracle Books, where, over a fresh-baked scone from the Gingerbread House bakery, they exchange their stories with owner Nora Pennington in return for a carefully chosen book. That's Nora's special talent. But when a visiting businessman reaches out to Nora for guidance, he's found dead on the train tracks before he can keep their appointment.

An Irish mobster. A missing friend. Two loyalties, ripping me apart. I had a plan. Get in, get my information, and get out. Easy, right? Turns out, infiltrating the Irish mafia isn't exactly what I thought it would be. I just wanted a soldier. Someone I could flirt with to get me in the door. That's when Lachlan Crow noticed me. Problem was, he wasn't a soldier. No, he was next in line for the throne of the Irish underworld. And he was determined to hate me from the outset.

This my be my favorite coffeehouse yet!
If you could sum up Roast Mortem in three words, what would they be?
Amazing character development!
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes! Aside from two mysteries to be solved, there was so much action. I also loved learning more about Quin. I'm not mad that Matt takes a backseat because I'm such a fan of Mike! He's great!
What about Rebecca Gibel’s performance did you like?
You know who is speaking by how she does each character's voice! It's amazing!

NOT Awful :-) !
I've read and listened to a lot of the Cleo Coyle Coffee House Mysteries. Love them. It is set in a compolitan background with lots of different accents: Brooklyn, NJ, English, French, Italian....
Interesting plot and satifying ending.

Best One Yet
I have been so so on the series. Not particularly fond of Claire’s character.
With that said however, I did enjoy this book as the background about the fire department was throughly researched.

I loved it
I'm really enjoying this coffee house series so much. This one had many twist and turn, and even had a little "Strangers on a Train" plot. We also learned a little more about the Michael Quinns history. Excellent narration. I reccomend this book and series.

Very enjoyable mystery with wonderful narration
This book is an enjoyable addition to the Coffehouse Mystery series. It's the first I've listened to through Audible and LOVED the narration. She had a wonderful range of "voices" for the various characters, making this experience truly wonderful. Sometimes a narrator will turn me off completely from listening to an otherwise good story. But I'll be back for more with Rebeca Gibel.

Best coffeehouse mystery to date.
I was becoming worried this series had lost its zing. #5 and #6 were just ok. The 3 redeemed these authors. Great characters.

A Salute to Fire Fighters
This story gets off to a fast and frightening start when Clare and two friends are trapped in a fire while visiting a coffee house owned by an acquaintance. They are rescued by the FDNY.
Fire fighters are key characters in the plot and I found that aspect of the story interesting.
I loved the first book of this series that I read (Murder by Mocha). I did not like this one quite as much for reasons that are particular to me. I enjoy stories about amateur detective . However, I do not enjoy it when the amateur detective puts herself in danger while following a "hunch". That occurs several times in this story.
I will give this series another try. The core characters are colorful and interesting. The mysteries are intricate and move along at a steady pace.
Narrator Rebecca Gibel has a clear voice and excellent diction.
