A Marriage Partner

This book is the perfect compliment to any marriage, but extends even further. It helps you relate and understand your children, parents and friends even better too. I bought the book too, so I could apply the principles and take the tests.

An Absolute MUST READ for all couples!

Gary Chapman is down to earth, engaging, and has a marvelous narrating voice. He explains his theory of the Five Love Languages in manageable, bite size portions. His use of anecdotal material from his 30 years of marriage counseling are extremely helpful in solidifying the concepts behind each Love Language.
Although based in Christian culture, this book is a worthwhile read to EVERYONE, religious and secular alike! The Christian overtones are subtle and do not detract from the material presented.
Although I feel solid in my relationship with my partner, the I feel the insights from this book will only strengthen our foundation. I highly recommended this book to EVERYONE!

Get past the Southern accent, focus on content

I really wish there was a version of someone else other than the author narrating. Hard for me to take advise from someone with a Southern accent (which is absurd, I know), but it's harder not to listen to the simple wisdom he writes about.

I've tried other love/marriage/relationship/help books. Pretty sure this is the one that is going to stick.

I also appreciate how short and to the point the book is. Most books could and should be this short. Time is my most valued asset.

Makes one think...

A great read which makes one think, if one is willing to spend some time in introspection and then more importantly in action. A wise person once wrote, “Thought without action is commentary” and I believe it holds true in this case. To identify one’s own love language and that of one’s partner is merely the first step.

It opens one’s eyes to the obvious conflict, which can arise when the love languages between partners are not the same. It only takes a moment to see where things went wrong in relationships past.

I do feel that the book could have been shorter however and found it to drag at times. Nevertheless, I definitely recommend it!!

READ THIS BOOK

I have recomended this book to every adult that I know. I would recomend this book to a healthy new marriage, a troubled marriage a happy marriage and just to anyone wanting a lasting realtionship. I am thankfull that it was referred to me. This book is that Ah Ha moment where you just say Duh, why didn't I realize this on my own. I've actually read the book once and listened to it twice. I find it very refreshing and soothing to know that there are other option besides giving up!

The basis of my 7 years old marriage.

When my fiance and I decided that we wanted to marry. We had only known each other for a few months. But we were serious about making sure that it would work. So we went to see my Army unit's chaplain to recieve some pre-marital counselling and advice. His first suggestion was to discover our love languages and to read this book.

To be honest, I never really read it at the time, I just let the chaplain and my fiance basically teach the core concepts to me. We based our marriage off of the information in this book. I just finished listening to it now though. And in the end, I think that I can safely attest to the value of the information within. This book has helped me and my wife to hold our marriage together for seven years now. And we're both constantly working to keep one another's love tanks full.

What an amazing simple concept

This book could completely change the way people interact with each other. The issue I see is that people know the concept but aren’t willing to put it to use. A couple of people I talked to said oh yes I am gifts and you are physical touch. Well ok why didn’t you tell me. *shrug
