About this listen

New York Times best seller

A heartwarming novel about secrets of youth rediscovered, hometown memories, and the magical moments in ordinary lives, from the beloved author of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.

“A gift, a blessing and a triumph...celebrates the bonds of family and friends - and the possibilities of recovery and renewal.” (The Free Lance-Star)

Bud Threadgoode grew up in the bustling little railroad town of Whistle Stop with his mother, Ruth, church-going and proper, and his aunt Idgie, the fun-loving hell-raiser. Together they ran the town's popular Whistle Stop Cafe, known far and wide for its fun and famous fried green tomatoes. And as Bud often said of his childhood to his daughter, Ruthie, "How lucky can you get?" But sadly, as the railroad yards shut down and Whistle Stop became a ghost town, nothing was left but boarded-up buildings and memories of a happier time. Then one day, Bud decides to take one last trip, just to see what has become of his beloved Whistle Stop. In so doing, he discovers new friends, as well as surprises about Idgie's life, about Ninny Threadgoode and other beloved Fannie Flagg characters, and about the town itself. He also sets off a series of events, both touching and inspiring, that change his life and the lives of his daughter and many others. Could these events all be just coincidences? Or something else? And can you really go home again?

Fannie Flagg does it again!

I loved this book and how the characters tie together families and stories from other FF books. I almost feel like I have another family who reside in Whistlestop, Florida and Alabama. Reading FF is like going home, wherever that may be for you.❤

Whistle Stop Cafe 2.0

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is one of my all time favorite books. Although Wonder Boy doesn't follow the time line quiet the same, it was fun to see how the characters continued. Fannie Flagg doesn't disappoint.

Welcome back to Whistle Stop!

It was delightful to return to Whistle Stop in this book. I worried that I would be disappointed, but it was a wonderful sequel to the original book and the ending was feel-good-perfect! Fannie Flagg’s narration added so much. Now I want to re-read Fried Green Tomatoes!

Great listening to pass the time

I loved Fanny on the TV game show Match Game in the 1970s, and I love her natural Southern drawl as she reads her own work! The story is very laid back, and involves many Fried Green Tomatoes characters, like Idgie. I like the way she describes the settings, people, and actions. You feel right there, at Whistle Stop! I think that if you're looking for a good audiobook to listen too, this one should be on that list! Recommended.
