A bargain for one credit

First, the good: This is a terrific bargain for a single credit. For readability, I have most recently relied either upon the NIV or New Living Translations, but I was pleased with the NKJV translation. It is accurate and easily understandable; this translation was suited perfectly for an Audio book. The readers were outstanding, and there was just enough dramatization, music and background effects to keep the stories moving without being annoying or overly-distracting. The sound quality was flawless.

Now, the bad: As other reviewers have detailed, dividing the Bible into 17 tracks is puzzling. Finding any particular passage is laborious and frustrating.

If you are seeking an Audio presentation of the Bible to listen to and experience a cover-to-cover read, you will find this production very much to your liking. If, on the other hand, you are looking for an Audio Bible to add to your library to listen to various individual scriptures, this format is not well suited for such an endeavor; other audio renditions may be more navigable for such a purpose.

Brings the Word to Life

I absolutely love this audio bible! I've read the bible through a few times but listening to this audio book makes the bible more alive to me. Its sad to admit but sometimes when I read my bible I feel sleepy but when I listen to this audiobook keeps me interested. The narrators and background sounds are wonderful. I put this on my ipod and start cleaning my house or do my yard work and I feel closer to God. This is definitely worth a credit to me!

Heavenly Production!

I've always considered dramatized versions of Scripture cheesy and unworthy of The Word despite the good intentions. But this production throws that all out the window.

Genesis 1-4 held me, my wife, and 9 year old son spell bound. My son wanted to go all night.

This is one fantastic production. The sound effects, Michael York's narration, the music...all of it combined make a fantastic impact on the movie in your mind. This is a must have.

I did notice that not every word was narrated, but any time that happened it was pretty irrelevant. It was stuff like "and the Lord said to..."; it wasn't needed because you know God was speaking to Eve. It's a nitpick that really doesn't take away from the production, but is worth noting if your looking to hear every single solitary NKJV word.

Have a listen to the sample. If it peaks your interest and you think you may enjoy listening to it, go with that instinct. You WILL NO be disappointed.

All good but one actor.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Word of Promise Complete Audio Bible: NKJV to be better than the print version?

Most of these books were excellent, but the ones Richard Dreyfuss voice was in sucked!
It was almost as if he were trying to sabotage this recording. Maybe it is just me - but I unfortunately have to skip when he starts reading because his voice is so annoying!

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This narration was possibly the best I have heard yet. With the exception of RD

Set the timer and listen as you drift to sleep

What made the experience of listening to The Word of Promise Complete Audio Bible: NKJV the most enjoyable?

Michael York's narration breathes such life in the reading of God's holy word. The background sound effects help the listener to visualize the scenes, and the different actors voices give life to the dialogue and pacing of the Biblical stories. The musical background also gives it a professional flair that makes one feel entertained while being nurtured in God's word.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Word of Promise Complete Audio Bible: NKJV?

Wow, just too many to say. I love the Creation Story, Noah's Ark Story, David's Story, Esther's Story, Paul's Books, and the Book of Revelation probably the most. I've listened through most of these 2 or 3 times. It never gets old.

Which scene was your favorite?

I think the books by Paul probably had the strongest impact on me. However, David's story did, too and the book of Proverbs and Psalms.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Jesus' crucifixion brought me to tears, knowing He died on the cross for my sins and hearing the Word of God with such dramatic presentation really helped make it real for me.

No chapter and verse headings!

There are no chapter headings so it is impossible to find a particular chapter or verse or even know where you are on the bible.... Acting is mediocre at best. But even with that I listen to it all the time because it is the word of God.

Perfect for listening while working or driving!

I was hesitant to buy this because of the reviews. Several people said that it was hard to search Books of the Bible. However, if you look at the three vertical dots in the upper right hand corner, it has a PDF to click on. At least, it does on my iPhone, lol. I can easily go straight to the Book of Psalms or the New Testament if needed. I highly recommend using your monthly credit for this audible Holy Bible!

Is Richard Dreyfuss a mockery toward God's Word as the Superior man of God Moses or what? A dreadful performance. Is he drunk?

What since r.d. Is an actor He is not powerful and All knowing
He is disrespectful ego centered man
A real treat.
