About this listen
"Evolution is one of the most powerful and important ideas ever developed in the history of science. Every question it raises leads to new answers, new discoveries, and new smarter questions. The science of evolution is as expansive as nature itself. It is also the most meaningful creation story that humans have ever found."—Bill Nye
Sparked by a controversial debate in February 2014, Bill Nye has set off on an energetic campaign to spread awareness of evolution and the powerful way it shapes our lives. In Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation, he explains why race does not really exist; evaluates the true promise and peril of genetically modified food; reveals how new species are born, in a dog kennel and in a London subway; takes a stroll through 4.5 billion years of time; and explores the new search for alien life, including aliens right here on Earth.
With infectious enthusiasm, Bill Nye shows that evolution is much more than a rebuttal to creationism; it is an essential way to understand how nature works—and to change the world. It might also help you get a date on a Saturday night.

Story
Religious fundamentalists and biblical literalists present any number of arguments that attempt to disprove evolution. Those with a sympathetic ear often fail to critically examine these creationist claims, leading to an ill-informed public and, perhaps more troubling, ill-advised public policy. As Aron Ra makes clear, however, every single argument deployed by creationists in their attacks on evolution is founded on fundamental scientific, religious, and historical falsehoods - all of them.

The Greatest Show on Earth is a stunning counterattack on advocates of "Intelligent Design," explaining the evidence for evolution while exposing the absurdities of the creationist "argument". Dawkins sifts through rich layers of scientific evidence: from living examples of natural selection to clues in the fossil record; from natural clocks that mark the vast epochs wherein evolution ran its course to the intricacies of developing embryos; from plate tectonics to molecular genetics.

In a time when our political and cultural views feel more polarized than ever, Tyson provides a much-needed antidote to so much of what divides us, while making a passionate case for the twin chariots of enlightenment—a cosmic perspective and the rationality of science. After thinking deeply about how science sees the world and about Earth as a planet, the human brain has the capacity to reset and recalibrates life’s priorities, shaping the actions we might take in response. No outlook on culture, society, or civilization remains untouched.

Story
Richard Dawkins, the world’s most famous evolutionary biologist, presents a gorgeously lucid, science book examining some of the nature’s most fundamental questions both from a mythical and scientific perspective. Science is our most precise and powerful tool for making sense of the world. Before we developed the scientific method, we created rich mythologies to explain the unknown. The pressing questions that primitive men and women asked are the same ones we ask as children. Who was the first person? What is the sun? Why is there night and day?

How can we make intelligent decisions about our increasingly technology-driven lives if we don’t understand the difference between the myths of pseudoscience and the testable hypotheses of science? Pulitzer Prize-winning author and distinguished astronomer Carl Sagan argues that scientific thinking is critical not only to the pursuit of truth but to the very well-being of our democratic institutions.

Story
In 12 fiercely funny, mind-expanding chapters, Dawkins explains how the natural world arose without a designer - the improbability and beauty of the "bottom-up programming" that engineers an embryo or a flock of starlings - and challenges head-on some of the most basic assumptions made by the world’s religions: Do you believe in God? Which one? Is the Bible a "Good Book"? Is adhering to a religion necessary, or even likely, to make people good to one another? Outgrowing God is a concise, provocative guide to thinking for yourself.

Critic reviews
“With his charming, breezy, narrative style, Bill empowers the reader to see the natural world as it is, not as some would wish it to be. He does it right. And, as I expected, he does it best.” —Neil deGrasse Tyson, Ph.D, host of COSMOS
“This gracefully written book provides a tour through not just the big ideas of evolution, but why evolution is such a captivating idea scientifically, philosophically, and emotionally. Written from the heart--but science always comes from the heart with Bill Nye.” —Eugenie C. Scott, Ph.D., author of Evolution vs. Creationism: An Introduction
“Bill Nye has written a wonderfully clear, readable, and enjoyable explanation of what evolution is and is not. In his casual, humorous style, he...describes the gigantic mountain of evidence that demonstrates that evolution not only happened in the past, but is happening in real time.” —Donald Prothero, Ph.D., author of Evolution: What the Fossils Say and Why It Matters

Charles Darwin's brilliant discovery challenged the creationist arguments; but only Richard Dawkins could have written this elegant riposte.

A list of the attributes that define a mammal is a ragbag of things - fur, live birth, three bones in the middle ear, a brain whose two halves are robustly joined together.... But this curious collection of features contain the roots of all the biology that makes us what we are: monkeys with massive brains who parent extensively, enjoy sport and think lots. Which is to say, what makes us mammals makes us human.

The media tells us that our genes control the risk of cancer, heart disease, alcoholism or Alzheimer's. The cost of DNA sequencing has plummeted from billions of pounds to a few hundred, and gene-based advances in medicine hold huge promise. So we've all heard of genes, but how do they actually work?

After thinking deeply about how science sees the world and about Earth as a planet, the human brain has the capacity to reset and recalibrates life’s priorities, shaping the actions we might take in response. No outlook on culture, society, or civilization remains untouched.

That was just the beginning, as researchers probed ever deeper into the atom’s complex structure, leading to the weird findings of quantum mechanics.

Which one? Is the Bible a "Good Book"? Is adhering to a religion necessary, or even likely, to make people good to one another? The Blind Watchmaker, knowledgably narrated by author Richard Dawkins, is as prescient and timely a book as ever. The watchmaker belongs to the 18th-century theologian William Paley, who argued that just as a watch is too complicated and functional to have sprung into existence by accident, so too must all living things, with their far greater complexity, be purposefully designed. Charles Darwin's brilliant discovery challenged the creationist arguments; but only Richard Dawkins could have written this elegant riposte.

As aChristian who adheres to evolutionarytheory...
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. Why? See below...
What was one of the most memorable moments of Undeniable?
His pep-talk about potentially seeding the solar system, galaxy and even universe with life!
Any additional comments?
Bill Nye's recently published book, Undeniable, is largely a response to the debate in 2014 between Nye and Young Earth Creationist, Ken Ham. I recommend this book to anyone still on the fence re evolution, which, for the most part are Christians. Very much the gentleman and good humored, Bill Nye elaborates on the topics touched on in the debate and adds much more toward making the case for evolution as well as debunking many YEC claims. Nye is engaging, humorous and self-deprecating.
Nye performed the reading himself and the book is better for it. I couldn't think of anyone to more authentic and dynamic to deliver the story. While it is about science Nye is draws you in and convinces you that he is sharing something wonderful with you, his story -OUR story- rather than lecturing or forcing information on you. His more expressive moments took me back to his shows I watched as a kid.
As a Christian who adheres to evolutionary theory without reservation I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Though firm and steady in his affirmation of evolution he is never insulting or disparaging of faith, Young Earth Creationists nor of Ken Ham. It seems he knows that Xian minds are changing on the topic of evolution, that the tide is turning and that it is important for all to embrace evolution and science. It's as though he's destroying his opponents by making them his friends... killing them softly with kindness, loving them into the truth. ;-) Some authors I've read on the subject give you the feeling that even if you were swayed you'd have a hard time being a fan. Nye comes across as though he's in your corner ready to welcome all who finally embrace evolution regardless of their faith. I think every American conservative evangelical should read this book, especially those who watched the debate.

well done
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Very informative. There was so much information to absorb. This is worth listening to multiple times!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Undeniable?
All of it was quite interesting.
Have you listened to any of Bill Nye’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
There is definitely something to be said for the author to read his own work! Sometimes in audiobooks the narrators emphasize at wierd times, and it seems maybe the narrator isn't listening to the words he's saying. In this case though, the words flow naturally. A good narrator is a big part of what keeps me listening!
Any additional comments?
To be fair here, a lot of my opinions coincide with the author, so I don't know how pesuasive this would be to someone looking to expand their understanding (if they come from a creationist-heavy background). But to me, I feel just a tad smarter having listened to this.

Ties it all together
Bill Nye explains the history of evolution and how it's an important driver for so many things we observe today. Finally, he takes it one step further to explore what we might expect about life in the cosmos and how it all got started.
Immediately accessible, understandable to the layperson, and yet not without new insights, this book is important for dispelling wrong notions that many people have about the natural world, and why those notions might exist. Our future will undoubtedly be brighter thanks to great scientific teachers communicators like Bill Nye.
