About this listen

Father Solomon Lancaster—the town's dry-witted sheriff and priest at the community Catholic church—finds himself on the forefront of an investigation into a series of murders. Soon, he's fighting to match wits with the serial killer terrorizing his town while trying to justify his law-enforcement credentials to the FBI as their analysts and profilers take Crooked Creek, Indiana, by storm. But Father Solomon is hiding secrets of his own. Ones that threaten to rise to the surface as the murders continue and the investigation draws nearer to the truth. As the killer begins to escalate, Father Solomon finds that even the innocent have dark sides and trust might be the deadliest weapon of all.

Wow

At first it seems like a pretty mundane story. Although the idea of a priest was also in share is interesting.. But their surprises are plenty just keep listening to the end. Recommend it

Wicked !

This was way better than expected, a creative, wicked small town murder story. Yes, it is not high art, but an engaging twisty story, well narrated as well.

Never know who to trust

Loved this book and the plain and simple way the narrator read it. Makes horrific acts sound rational. There are surprises that are unexpected and we’ll-developed characters. I highly recommend.

Unexpected big twist

I had not heard of the author or his YouTube channel. Happened upon the book in either a daily sale or suggestions. It was good. Rather unbelievable, however entertaining. I kind of guessed where it was going based on some foreshadowing. It’s worth a listen if you get it on sale or in one of those 2 for 1 deals. I am not much of a reviewer, sorry.

It started kinda of in an amateur way.

the twists made up for the slow start. wow! What a weird ride. I enjoy the dry humor

Initial issue with the MC, but it was resolved

I had a problem with the main character being a priest and using profanity as well as highly derogatory comments. This is just not how any priest/pastors I have know would speak or behave, so it was not something I could accept in the story. However, this aspect was later explained so I guess you have to accepted it up front and allow the story to play out. Overall it was not bad - I was not expecting the twist, so kudos to Jeremy Scott on writing a good story.

Am I the only one who didn't like this book?

So many good reviews. And I do have to say, I am giving the narrator 4 stars because he does have a great voice and his story telling is very good.

But there are just things about this book, that were not for me.

I like modern crime solving, and I should have known that I was going to be missing a lot in a book set in the 1980's.
I like more depth written into the characters. Many of the characters, to include some of the main ones, seem very 1 dimensional.
I like justice...enough said.

Super surprised! Good listen.

Tough start, narration extremely slow. I sped up the narration which made the listen doable for me. A very mellow, but interesting thriller. There are some great twist in the body of the book and the ending I found spectacular. It left me rehashing the entire book mentally.
