About this listen
The first book specifically for daughters suffering from the emotional abuse of selfish, self-involved mothers, Will I Ever Be Good Enough? provides the expert assistance you need in order to overcome this debilitating history and reclaim your life for yourself. Drawing on over two decades of experience as a therapist specializing in women's psychology and health, psychotherapist Dr. Karyl McBride helps you recognize the widespread effects of this maternal emotional abuse and guides you as you create an individualized program for self-protection, resolution, and complete recovery.Narcissistic mothers teach their daughters that love is not unconditional, that it is given only when they behave in accordance with maternal expectations and whims. As adults, these daughters have difficulty overcoming feelings of inadequacy, disappointment, emotional emptiness, and sadness.

Story
The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes-in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body. This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering.

Story
But It’s Your Family is a remarkable account of what it means to cut ties to toxic family abuse and thrive in the aftermath. Loving someone doesn’t always mean having a relationship with them, just like forgiveness doesn’t always mean reconciliation. Reconciling, in many cases, only sets people up for more abuse. A significant part of healing comes with accepting that this is a part of life; there are some relationships that are so poisonous that they destroy one’s ability to be healthy and function best.

Children today live in an unpredictable, disruptive, and often violent world. Many of them live in two different homes with different sets of expectations. They face bullying at school and online. They hear news of school shootings, and racially or religiously motivated violence. They may have lost a friend or a loved one. As parents, the impulse to protect our children is strong, but that very protection can end up handicapping them for life. Rather than seek to save them from the hard things, parents must teach their kids how to cope with and rise above their problems.

Changed my life
When I saw the title of this book, it felt like it grabbed my soul. That question, “Will I Ever Be Good Enough?,” was like the theme of my life - without me realizing it fully until I read those words.
The part that said “for daughters of narcissistic mothers” threw me off at first... I thought to myself, “eh.. I don’t really know if my mom is a narcissist....” But that title had me hooked, so I decided to give it a listen.
I finished the book in 1.5 days (I had to sleep after all). I took notes. I sent it to my sisters.
Reading this book was like watching The Truman Show, except Truman was me. The doctor who wrote this book did such a thorough job of explaining everything about being the daughter of a mother who suffers from NPD.
She talks about the signs of narcissism, the 33 ways you might feel or reactions you might experience as the daughter of a narcissist, relationship patterns later in life, career choices later in life... just everything.
Long story very short, my mother is as narcissistic as they come, and I learned exactly how to deal with that fact in this book. I can now live my life freely, with firmly established boundaries, and concentrate on my own healing instead of constantly being forced to only think of her.
My children have already benefited so much from me reading this book. My relationship with my father has shot up into the sky. My relationship with myself, life in general, and everyone I come into contact with is better... when I say better I’m talking about a 180° turnaround.
If you feel like *maybe,* just maybe you need to read this book, I highly encourage you to start it ASAP.
P.S. I love the author’s voice. It was a very easy and soothing listen for me.

This book is an excellent find. Although I was working alongside a therapist I wanted to explore my feelings on my own as well and this book helped me do that and forgive myself for things I believed were my fault. All daughters of narcissists need to read this and feel whole and understood.

This book is good enough.
Everything I ever needed to hear. I can’t thank Karyl McBride enough. I’ve listened to this book probably 3 times all the way through in the past year. I’ve never had a book speak to me like this before, there were so many moments that I yelled “yes!” While hearing someone with a similar story to mine. Thanks for the tools you have given me.

Excellent book!
This is one of the best self help books I have listened to in a while. If you had a narcissistic Mom or a Mom that was mean to you, you must read or listen to this book. It has given me a better understanding of myself and what I need to do in the future in personal relationships. To the author: thank you so much for writing this book!

It's like this book was written for me! so helpful
so helpful!!!!! I'm working through the recovery steps now and I feel so fortunate to have stumbled upon this book. I've been looking for an explanation to my pain and my mother's behavior for decades.

Peoples stories
The voice was monotone. It could have had depth and more expression in tone of voice
