Story
The most painful of Evie Cormac's memories have been locked away, ever since she was held prisoner as a child - a child whose rescue captured hearts and headlines. Forensic psychologist Cyrus Haven's mission is to guide her to something near normality. But today, on a Lincolnshire beach, seventeen bodies wash up in front of them. There is only one survivor, with two women still missing. And Evie's nightmares come roaring back. Whatever happened all those years ago lies at the core of this new tragedy. Because these deaths are no accident.

I have listened to/read every single one of Robotham's books, but was really disappointed with this one. It was a rather lazy tie up of all loose ends in this series. A real shame as I'm a big fan.

Christmas day, and DCI Tom Reynolds receives an alarming call. Story
It was supposed to be fun. A relaxing trip to a remote mountain retreat where there’s no phone reception. Three couples, friends since high school, are looking forward to a weekend of drinking, reminiscing and flirting. When someone suggests swapping partners, it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. The lights will be switched off, for privacy. It’s not really cheating if you don’t know who you were with, right? But when the lights come back on, one of the men is dead. No-one can agree who was in which bedroom with whom.

I thought tens of times about quitting listening to this book, but I’m stubborn…and I had misguided hope it would get better! A ridiculous plot, with many holes and clumsily written. I don’t know of the author but hoping it’s merely a blip in their writing career.

Story
She bursts into my life like a storm, and nothing is the same again. One by one, I watch as my friends fall under her spell. Only I see that her smiles don’t reach her cold, furious eyes. And when I’m accused of things I didn’t do, when my home is vandalized, I know she’s behind it. But she only lets her mask slip when no one is looking, so if I say anything, I’ll look crazy. So when the baby shower comes around, I’m sitting on a velvet sofa in a posh hotel room, surrounded by balloons. But that afternoon, I finally learn the unbelievable truth. There is no baby....

The narrator was good but the story was unfortunately rather underwhelming. The ‘twist’ was so terribly boring and predictable you simply couldn’t call it a ‘twist’. I kept waiting for the ‘good bit’, but sadly, it nevertheless arrived.

‘Try hard’ book
Reviewed: 17-08-2021
I can’t believe I stuck with it until the end - considering the end was a predictable and ‘blah’ as I’d suspected it would be. I don’t usually write many reviews, but I have to save somebody else from wasting their time. The sheer number of chapters is infuriating as the narrator has to give each one (when you get to chapter 150, it’s simply unbearable.) Cringe worthy and utterly pointless sex scenes and a very predictable, safe plot.

Story
Motherless and irrepressibly curious, Esme spends her childhood in the Scriptorium, a garden shed in Oxford where her father and a team of lexicographers are gathering words for the very first Oxford English Dictionary. Esme’s place is beneath the sorting table, unseen and unheard. One day, she sees a slip containing the word bondmaid flutter to the floor unclaimed. Esme begins to collect other words from the Scriptorium that are misplaced, discarded or have been neglected by the dictionary men.
