Story
Shantaram is a novel based on the life of the author, Gregory David Roberts. In 1978 Roberts was sentenced to 19 years imprisonment as punishment for a series of robberies of building-society branches, credit unions, and shops he had committed while addicted to heroin. In July 1980 he escaped from Victoria's maximum-security prison in broad daylight, thereby becoming one of Australia's most wanted men for what turned out to be the next 10 years.

Worth the listen, life is too precious to throw away, other lives, even those of your parallel self aren't a substitute for living your best life.
Minor quibble, there are two places where the reader says Nora when obviously she should say Molly.

Good story, appalling production.
Reviewed: 20-05-2021
My fourth Duchovny book, like his previous three this story holds up a fun house mirror to Americana.
Great story fundamentally undermined by shocking production. Simply the worst production I have experienced in over 60 audible recordings. Everything from the tinny echo that sounds like it was recorded in a wood panel lined broom closet, to the dodgy drop ins, to the mastering. This book deserves to be re-recorded, and those who purchased this version should be given it for free.

Story
The Peripheral by William Gibson is a thrilling new novel about two intertwined futures, from the bestselling author of Neuromancer. Flynne Fisher lives down a country road, in a rural near-future America where jobs are scarce, unless you count illegal drug manufacture, which she's keen to avoid. Her brother Burton lives, or tries to, on money from the Veterans Association, in compensation for neurological damage suffered in a Marines elite unit.

Story
When LSD was first discovered in the 1940s, it seemed to researchers, scientists and doctors as if the world might be on the cusp of psychological revolution. It promised to shed light on the deep mysteries of consciousness, as well as offer relief to addicts and the mentally ill. But in the 1960s, with the vicious backlash against the counter-culture, all further research was banned. In recent years, however, work has quietly begun again on the amazing potential of LSD, psilocybin and DMT. Could these drugs in fact improve the lives of many people?

Story
Sir John Penlyon is planning to spend Christmas at his estate with his niece and his friend Danby, the closest thing he has to family since disowning his daughter years ago. (She eloped with the parson, who was, of course, penniless.) Danby suggests that at Christmastime the estate needs the presence of small children, and offers to find some - the “hirelings” - despite Sir John’s skepticism. Three children duly arrive, and the youngest, precocious four year-old Moppet, quickly endears herself to Sir John.

Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

A brilliant mix of factually based content woven seamlessly with authentic emotionally charged feelings. While I found the religiosity a bit cloying, none the less I know that is authentic too. A pity the Walking Dead was so successful, because a series based on One Second After could have been even more compelling.
