Nothing like someone living their dream!

I love a good story about people following a dream, achieving something they never believed they could. Going on this journey with Kate & her family was inspiring. The location, Italy, a country full of glorious surprises, fabulous food and beautiful memories. I'll never tire of it, but the Australian perspective of this experience made this book even more special.

Absolutely loved this beautiful book, Craig Silvey's best so far! A wonderful story of resilience, teenage angst & love. It made me laugh and it made me cry.

We listened to this over a 9 hour drive and loved it. The narration was excellent as you'd imagine and the story, whilst a little annoying in parts, his backstory was inspiring. His life experiences were adventurous and his advice from lessons learned was sound.

It was the sound that stood out as the production quality exceeded most audio books. The story itself was meh, the ending disappointing as the big crescendo I was waiting for never came. The performances were as you'd expect from such a brilliant line up.

Enjoyable & engaging murder mystery set in Galway Ireland. I'm not rushing to read the read the rest of the series straight away but I may give them a go down the track.

the whole book seemed like a bit of a slow burn & whilst I absolutely did get hooked in the ending for me was a little disappointing. I was wanting a real twist & it let me down on that front. Hard when I compare all her books to The Dry which I loved.

A wonderful advertisement for Tasmania & activism

Whilst the first half was slow going, I persisted and I'm glad I did. Bruny is the best advertisement for the state of Tasmania ever! It's also a terrifying reminder about how easy it is for foreign investors to buy up our country and just how willing people will buy into whatever narrative they are sold. It's a book that highlights the importance of activism and therefore Tasmania was the perfect setting. Whilst the storyline was a little far-fetched at times, I loved the characters of the 'parents', the Dad with Alzheimer's who can only communicate in Shakespearian quotes and the Mother who is the epitome of a domineering matriarch. Zoe Carides as the narrator was brilliant and no doubt her years spent living in the US have enabled her to perfect the US accent but at the same time her Aussie accent was still truly authentic.

If I hadn't been listening to this on an 18hr return trip in the car I probably wouldn't have finished it. It was too much like a fairy tale, or dare I say it, an 'Americanised' version of factual events. This didn't do the women who ran the Alice network, and there were many other similar networks in Europe at that time too, any favours as many of these women were coders some using their knitting patterns to get messages across borders & enemy lines. The danger & risk was overshadowed much of the time by the unfolding love story.
