Story
Laura, newly married and ever conscious she may be living in the shadow of her husband Alec's first wife, decides to take a holiday with his family in Cornwall. Through the long hot summer days, she is slowly charmed by the beautiful old house and the people she learns to know and love. In time her uneasy spirit is soothed by the sparkling, brilliant sea, and her restless heart finally calmed.

A heartwarming tale of family loves and losses.

Refreshingly nostalgic in today's rushed world, this story presents another opportunity for escapism into the world of Rosamunde's warm and descriptive writing. Likeable and sensitive characters, the big joys and small tragedies of daily living, and a competent and engaging narrator. A very easy listen.

Story
There is a mystery surrounding the invitation by Craddock Fitch to the Big House. It is billed as a celebration of his business, but as everyone in the village has been invited, it is obviously more exciting than that. When everyone is assembled, they find that it is a lavish wedding reception for two very surprising people.

A beautifully-narrated delightful tale

Pam Ferris narrates this charming novel to perfection - her characterisations are so natural that you find yourself immersed in, rather than observing, the tale. A truly artistic performance that enriched the written narrative. The story itself provides a wholesome exploration of the complexities of daily life, and relationships, in a small English village. Much like community dynamics, the various plot lines intertwine to form a satisfying web of development. The hopes, fears, hurts and loves of the characters are relatable and you become invested in their welfare. Truly, a lovely, relaxing, humorous and compassionate tale. I thoroughly recommend it, and - once again - hats off to Pam Ferris for an exquisite interpretation!
