When a house explodes in a quiet Oxford suburb and a young girl disappears in the aftermath, Sarah Tucker becomes obsessed with finding her. Story
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

Strange book in many ways of you’re Australian, hearing a foreign perspective on 1980s/90s Australia and the colonial history.
No holes barred reflection on the past (pun intended). Sometimes the exposition distracted from the story.

Loved it. Funny, political and relatable even though it’s about witches!
Fantasy, yes but also a biting critique of colonialism, white feminism, homophobia and transphobia. That’s a lot to pack into one book! Can’t wait for the next instalment

I was dreading the Cunningham family reunion even before the first murder. Before the storm stranded us at the mountain resort, snow and bodies piling up. The thing is, us Cunninghams don't really get along. We've only got one thing in common: we've all killed someone.
