you can see the lineage of slow horses in this, edge of seat action. some characters could've been further developed.

Strange book in many ways of you’re Australian, hearing a foreign perspective on 1980s/90s Australia and the colonial history.

No holes barred reflection on the past (pun intended). Sometimes the exposition distracted from the story.

Will follow the series as the premise is fascinating. Hopefully will unpack more of the societal implications of the imminent end of the world!

Started a little slow and had to come back to it a few times. But Fry is a master at the slow burn and the reward for persevering is worth it.

Interesting if a little predictable. The octopus was an interesting plot device that worked well.

Loved it. Funny, political and relatable even though it’s about witches!

Fantasy, yes but also a biting critique of colonialism, white feminism, homophobia and transphobia. That’s a lot to pack into one book! Can’t wait for the next instalment

Great listen. Tackles an important topic and resonates around the world beyond the US. Institutional racism tackled in a way that is interesting and engaging. The overlay of sexual identity adds a layer of nuance.

Great listen. Nice to hear a strong Australian accent in crime fiction. Brings the Australian larrikin sensibility to the genre.
