No ending !!!
Reviewed: 14-01-2025
I really dislike books that leave you hanging without an ending. I feel like it’s a way to make you buy the next book! The character of Tyler is an unbelievable one. Not sure if it’s the way his character is narrated or the character himself. How could he possibly keep his job if he behaves and talks the way he is portrayed? Very disappointed and I’ve loved previous books in the series.

Slow annoying story

I couldn’t get into this book and ended up skipping multiple chapters at a time as it moved along so slowly. Even doing this I easily kept up with the plot. Just glad I chose to do that so that I didn’t waste even more time on this book.

Way too slow
Reviewed: 29-01-2024
I had to speed up the reading of this book and also skip ahead a lot. For me it was way too slow and I found the character of Beverley extremely frustrating. Yes it all came together at the end - thank goodness - but I didn’t find most of the journey getting there to be enjoyable. Only persisted to get to the conclusion. Sorry I spent the time listening to this book and I usually love this author’s work which made it even more disappointing! Would return it if I could.

Story
When Marlo is unceremoniously ghosted by her part-time lover, she decides she’ll need to avoid the whole Christmas season. That is actually pretty easy in this country, because it’s so hot and so far away from anything that means Christmas to her. But Marlo’s flatmate Alex is determined to lift her out of her grinch slump and convince her that Christmas Down Under may be unfamiliar, but exactly what she needs to start her life on a new course.

I had to skip ahead as I found this story too slow and frustrating. I could skip ahead 6 or more chapters at a time and still understand what was happening! I did go back after I got to the end to fill in some of the story but overall I found it a frustrating book to listen to as well as being not believable.

Terrible narration spoiled the enjoyment of this book!
Reviewed: 13-08-2021
The narration of this book was absolutely terrible and spoiled my enjoyment of the story. I only persevered as I wanted to read this latest Joy Ellis novel and I didn’t have time to read it in print. Many times I thought I’d just have to stop listening as it was so bad !! Why why why are such poor narrators chosen ?? The narrator’s voice did not in any way suit the book or it’s characters. Such a waste of an interesting plot. Very very disappointed and I would not recommend this audio book because of the narration. (Given 1 star as I wasn’t allowed to give none!)

A young woman's body is found in a remote barn on the Fens. Before she was killed, one of her fingers had been cut off. Who is inflicting this violence and why? The young woman in the barn had been kept captive for some time. And the case shows strong similarities to an unsolved murder in Derbyshire. When another woman is found alive with similar injuries, the case grows even more complicated.

Great story which is why I persisted in spite of the terrible narration. Voices and accents were so badly suited to the characters. Luckily this was purchased at a sale price so I put up with the narration and tried to just enjoy the story but it was difficult. Hope I don’t have to hear this narrator again with any of this series of books!
