The Disney movie is beautiful, the ideas fantastic. It is just not a very good read tbh. It is okay, but only okay. The performance was great. Just not a Lewis fan apparently.

This is the disturbing tale of the dual personality of Dr. Jekyll, a physician. A generous and philanthropic man, he is preoccupied with the problems of good and evil and with the possibility of separating them into distinct personalities. He develops a drug that transforms him into the demonic Mr. Hyde, in whose person he exhausts all the latent evil in his nature.

Performance was wonderful. Not one of the greats in terms of the classics for me. Would take Frankenstein or Dracula any day over this one. But still good to know the full story.

Story
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

I found the journalists voice a little annoying at the start but quickly got used to it. The rest of the read was fantastic. I normally fall asleep listening to audiobooks, but was up until 3am last night in bed to hear the end. Very good read.

Story
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Poor monster. 😭😭😭 heartbreaking book. So different to the modern day interpretations of Frankenstein’s monster. Wonderful reading.
