In this devious and delightfully funny competition, four comedians have the audacity to lie through their teeth for victory. They compete against each other with lies, untruths and dishonesty. Tall tales, white lies, blatant bluffs and misdirection rule. Can they smuggle the truth past each other, or will they be caught in the act of lying? Listen in, play along and try to separate fact from fiction in the ultimate lying game.

Story
In 1996, Hanna Heath, a rare-book expert, is offered the job of a lifetime: analysis and conservation of the famed Sarajevo Haggadah, which has been rescued during the Bosnian war. Priceless and beautiful, the book is one of the earliest Jewish volumes ever to be illuminated with images. When Hanna discovers a series of artifacts in its ancient binding, she begins to unlock the book's mysteries. The reader is ushered into an exquisitely detailed past, tracing the book's journey from its salvation back to its creation.

Implausible and smug
Reviewed: 20-12-2023
I admit I didn’t get far. The book starts in Sydney and we are taken through the main character’s journey, starting with the 20-25 hour flight to Eastern Europe. She starts working immediately on the sacred book preservation, with intensity and concentration. After a full day’s work, she goes for dinner with a colleague she doesn’t like much. At the end of the meal, she grabs his hand and starts sucking his fingers ….what…? Has this author never travelled? Does she not realise what flying across the world does to you?
Of course they go back to his and fuck. Oh fuck off. Are you worried your subject matter is too dull to keep readers interested? You have to have a sex scene in chapter one? Or is this supposed to be character building? For me it was so ridiculous I lost all interest.
Super disappointing.
Oh and the narrator’s accents are just painfully bad.

Story
Five figures gather 'round a shallow grave. They had all taken turns to dig. An adult-sized hole would have taken longer. An innocent life had been taken, but the pact had been made. Their secrets would be buried, bound in blood. Years later a headmistress is found brutally strangled, the first in a spate of gruesome murders that shock the Black Country.

The cliches come thick and fast
Reviewed: 28-12-2022
Chapter 1 and we have already met a cast of characters in the most cliched terms possible, including, of course, a few obligatory diverse supporting cast. Each is given two paragraphs to ‘capture’ them, and I suspect all further characterisations will simply expand on this outline without adding any depth. Now the main character is confronted by her boss, who finds her too independent and feisty. What a maverick!
JFC I’m already bored off my tits.

Muddy sound
Reviewed: 17-09-2021
Whoever decided that each story needed muddy, dull background music should have their ass kicked. I could not listen to any of these stories because the background music is intrusive and muddies the sound but adds nothing.

This reminded me of listening to the radio show of HitchHikers Guide to the Galaxy. I found this absolutely hilarious. It never lagged or strayed or got dull. The four main characters are brilliant. They are all well written and well acted. I wish I could remember where I heard about this one because I owe them a huge thanks.
Have a listen. You’ll love it!!

I’ve always liked these stories and this was a really fun listen.
The narrator should drop the accent, though. Or get an actual ascot to do the narration.

Which is worse? An American doing a Scottish accent or a Canadian trying to imagine the childhood of a Viking? The story is silly and dull (the atheling calls his parents ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ and all but says ‘gee whillikers’ 🙄) and the narration is grating. Why choose to do every character in a Scottish accent when you aren’t very good at Scottish accents? Baffling. And awful.
