Story
The Carryx—part empire, part hive—has waged wars of conquest for centuries, destroying or enslaving species across the galaxy in its conflict with an ancient and deathless enemy. When they descend on the isolated world of Anjiin, the human population is abased, slaughtered, and put in chains. The best and brightest are abducted, taken to the Carryx world-palace to join prisoners from a thousand other species. Start of a new epic
Reviewed: 28-10-2024
I really like the story. But this is just the very beginning of something epic. My only issue was that the narrator has almost no range in his characters' voices especially the girls. The authors also use the character's names sparingly and so it was difficult to keep track of who was talking at times. I almost gave up because of this but the story kept me going and I did warm to the voice a little more by the end

Story
At the end of the fourth year of the Crisis Era, Yun Tianming, riddled with cancer, chose to end his life. But death for Yun Tianming is merely the first step in a journey that will place him on the front line of a war that has raged since the beginning of time. As Yun Tianming lay dying, his brain was extracted from his body, flash frozen, put aboard a spacecraft and launched on a trajectory to intercept the Trisolarian First Fleet. It was a desperate plan. But there was an infinitesimal chance that one day Tianming may, somehow, send valuable information back to Earth.

A perfect dip back in the Amazing universe
Reviewed: 28-08-2021
I definitely sat on the fence with this one wondering if it could possibly live up to the original series that I thought was the best science fiction I've read. You know the characters are stilled and the plot sometimes meandering but who else can make you see fourth dimensional space, make a ship out of strong-interaction force, and take you to the end of time?
So can this live up to that? I was very pleasantly surprised by how good this was. It extended on the series and gave a satisfying conclusion to some of the secondary characters. If you loved the original and want to get transported back to that universe I recommend you take the plunge and give this fan fiction a go.

Story
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

Story
Technologically there’s never been a better time to search for a new earth beyond our solar system. Professor Danielle George examines exoplanets in the so-called habitable zone. Those that have liquid water. And maybe even life. She wonders how we might be able to take the our first ever high resolution picture of an exoplanet using the microchips found in mobile phones. And she meets world-leading astrophysicists to ask if within our lifetimes humans might step foot on an earth-like planet.

Story
A series of apparently random murders draws amiable, old-school Detective Mick Matlock into a world of sex, politics, reality TV and a bewildering kaleidoscope of opposing identity groups. Lost in a blizzard of hashtags, his already complex investigation is further impeded by the fact that he simply doesn’t ‘get’ a single thing about anything anymore. Meanwhile, each day another public figure confesses to having ‘misspoken’ and prostrates themselves before the judgment of Twitter. Begging for forgiveness, assuring the public 'that is not who I am'.

If you like Ben Elton then you'll love this one. Up there with High Society but maybe not quite as clever. As usual up to the minute satire on identity politics, Brexit, Cambridge Analytica, Russian interference, post truth twitter feeds and gender dysmorphia. All read excellently by Ben Elton himself.

Lord Copper, newspaper magnate and proprietor of the Daily Beast, has always prided himself on his intuitive flair for spotting ace reporters. That is not to say he has not made the odd blunder, however, and may in a moment of weakness make another. Acting on a dinner party tip from Mrs. Algernon Stitch, Lord Copper feels convinced that he has hit on just the chap to cover a promising war in the African Republic of Ishmaelia. So begins Scoop.

A great performance of a fitting end

I really enjoyed Dark Eden. Such an atmospheric and inventive tale with great world building. Daughter of Eden was ok. The 3rd book was really good, almost up to the first one. A satisfying conclusion to the trilogy but plenty of room for more stories if needed.
The narration was very good with plenty of different voices. Sometime the accents were a little funny but who really knows how they speak on Eden! I always prefer 1reader than a group, so luckily this book is only told from the viewpoint of Angie, unlike the previous 2.
