Insipid Performances of Magnificent Characters

Absolutely fails to capture the gravitas of Gandalf and the spirit of the other characters. Extremely disappointing. I couldn't listen past the first half hour...

Story
Not only can we not currently explain the origin of the universe, it is questionable we will ever be able to explain it. The notion that there are universes within particles, or that particles are conscious, is ascientific, as is the hypothesis that our universe is a computer simulation. On the other hand, the idea that the universe itself is conscious is difficult to rule out entirely.

Pretty Tedious

I typically love content on quantum physics and cosmology etc, but I simply couldn't finish this book. It became very dull and repetitive. I also found the narrator's voice annoying. Not something I'd recommend.

Story
In this audiobook, Dr Bessel van der Kolk offers a new paradigm for effectively treating traumatic stress. Neither talking nor drug therapies have proven entirely satisfactory. With stories of his own work and those of specialists around the globe, The Body Keeps the Score sheds new light on the routes away from trauma - which lie in the regulation and syncing of body and mind, using sport, drama, yoga, mindfulness, meditation and other routes to equilibrium.

Story
At the heart of the Milky Way, there is a distortion in the fabric of the Universe. Caused by something 4 million times bigger than our Sun, it is where space and time are so warped that everything within 12 million kilometres is trapped, even light. This region of no return is called the event horizon, and inside it lies the end of time as we know it. We have named it Sagittarius A* and it is a supermassive black hole. Black holes lie where the most massive stars used to shine and at the edge of our current understanding.

Extremely Technical
Reviewed: 21-03-2023
This book started out well and I found it very interesting, but by chapter 5 it was becoming highly technical, referring constantly to the attached pdf which likewise became increasingly esoteric. I ultimately found it practically unintelligible. If you have a strong background in math and physics you might be ok, but despite my keen interest in astrophysics and quantum mechanics, I became completely lost.
On a trivial matter, the narrator's inability to pronounce "squared" - instead pronouncing it "skwered", rhyming with "were" - became increasingly annoying.

Already internationally acclaimed for his elegant, lucid writing on the most challenging notions in modern physics, Sean Carroll is emerging as one of the greatest humanist thinkers of his generation as he brings his extraordinary intellect to bear not only on the Higgs boson and extra dimensions but now also on our deepest personal questions. Where are we? Who are we? Are our emotions, our beliefs, and our hopes and dreams ultimately meaningless out there in the void?

Story
AD 2204. An alien shipwreck is discovered on a planet at the very limits of human expansion - so Security Director Feriton Kayne selects a team to investigate. The ship’s sinister cargo not only raises bewildering questions but could also foreshadow humanity’s extinction. It will be up to the team to bring back answers, and the consequences of this voyage will change everything. Back on Earth, we can now make deserts bloom and extend lifespans indefinitely, so humanity seems invulnerable. We therefore welcomed the Olyix to Earth when they contacted us. But were the Olyix a blessing or a curse?

As the author of many classic works on science and philosophy, Richard Dawkins has always asserted the irrationality of belief in God and the grievous harm it has inflicted on society. He now focuses his fierce intellect exclusively on this subject, denouncing its faulty logic and the suffering it causes.
