Through wide-ranging, and often deeply personal conversation, Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Perry explore how what happens to us in early childhood–both good and bad–influences the people we become. They challenge us to shift from focusing on, “What’s wrong with you?” or “Why are you behaving that way?,” to asking, “What happened to you?”

Story
Now, most people have heard of ADHD and know someone who may have it. But lost in the discussion of both childhood and adult diagnosis of ADHD is the potential upside: Many hugely successful entrepreneurs and highly creative people attribute their achievements to ADHD. Also unknown to most are the recent research developments, including innovations that give a clearer understanding of the ADHD brain in action.

When I was diagnosed with ADHD, I started my research online and was finding lots of great info.
This book from 2021 has up to date research & tips. It has given me so many insights and laughs LOL, as I related so much to the challenges as well as the gifts with my brain.
Right from the outset, I was glued to this book, made many notes & bookmarks then, decided to buy the Kindle version as well. (Great for my brain to read along with it too!)
Being able to screenshot & share some of the succinct information with my friends & family will be invaluable for their understanding as I find it difficult to reiterate. As for the sceptics in my life who do not believe in ADHD, especially not in women & girls, scientific information allows us to feel warranted in our difficulties, pre-and post diagnosis. So for the naysayers, I know myself and I know my diagnosis is accurate and this book as well as medication is life changing.
Thank goodness, so much research is being done and it is being taken seriously now, especially with more focus on the differences for women and girls with ADHD. Thank you to the authors.

Story
This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose and my strength, but also to finding my voice in a world that didn't always see me. As I wrote Finding Me, my eyes were open to the truth of how our stories are often not given close examination. They are bogarted, reinvented to fit into a crazy, competitive, judgmental world. So I wrote this for anyone who is searching for a way to understand and overcome a complicated past, let go of shame and find acceptance.

Story
Think of The War of Art as tough love...for yourself. Since 2002, The War of Art has inspired people around the world to defeat "resistance"; to recognize and knock down dream-blocking barriers and to silence the naysayers within us. Resistance kicks everyone's butt, and the desire to defeat it is equally as universal. The War of Art identifies the enemy that every one of us must face, outlines a battle plan to conquer this internal foe, then pinpoints just how to achieve the greatest success.

As one of the most celebrated musicians of our time, Alicia Keys has enraptured the nation with her heartfelt lyrics, extraordinary vocal range and soul-stirring piano compositions. Yet away from the spotlight, Alicia has grappled with private heartache over the challenging and complex relationship with her father, the people-pleasing nature that characterised her early career, the loss of privacy surrounding her romantic relationships and the oppressive expectations of female perfection.

Alicia’s music has always moved me in various ways & to hear her story narrated in her own glorious spoken voice, listening to her at the centre of my head (thanks AirPods), taking walks & cleaning the house with her stories I couldn’t get enough of. I connected with her daily till the last word.
I found this book through hearing Alicia speak on Instagram with another brilliant author, Glennon Doyle. Glennon’s book, Untamed, and Alicia’s book are two relevant masterpieces that have kept me on a glorious path of uncovering my stuff and opening my heart, during CoVid-19.
This book plus Untamed, for me, are catalysts, shining examples of what’s possible with focus, hard work & a steely perseverance for being your true self. Perfect companions for quality time spent in solitude, to step into a different future, reborn.
