Story
Saffy is waiting to go into an important meeting when she receives a missed call and then a text message from her best friend, Leona: Please help...come now. Of course, she races to her friend’s house. But when she arrives, she notices something strange. This message was deleted. Leona answers the door, and insists everything's fine. She doesn't know anything about the message. Six hours later, Saffy gets a knock on the door. It's the police. They’ve found a body. And Saffy was the last one to see them alive.

Story
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can. I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper.

Not the best by this Author
Reviewed: 08-06-2024
Although I usually really enjoy the books by K.L. Slater due to their fast pace and twists, this one doesn't measure up. The storyline just omitted information and repeated "thoughts" by the characters over and over. The usual side stories, ebbs in climaxes and bread crumbs were missing. Then in a rush, it was all spelt out in the end. No pieces 'fell into place' because there weren't any pieces to speak of. Characters were shallow and under developed. Not my favourite by this Author. I would recommend their other titles before this one. The narration was quite good though.

Story
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

I love all of these books by this author. The story moves along well and isn't punctured by long winding descriptive nonsense. The twists are always great and this is no exception. The narration is very easy to listen to and I stayed with this one, in its entirety, straight through in one day. Absolutely recommend for those who enjoy a mystery.

Crazy twist ending

Story unfolded at a steady pace, a bit repetitive in places. Going over less important things but skimming key details. Felt like triple the action happened right at the end and you have to pay close attention to get it all. Overall a decent story, narration and pace.

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

What a wonderful Australian story! Great sayings, similies, metaphors and personification littered throughout the novel. This really painted a wonderful picture rather than endless descriptive sentences. Interesting story that combined small country towns and big mining corporations. Absolutely recommend.

Her only daughter has just gone away to college, and Maggie O'Farrell knows she's turning into one of those helicopter parents she used to mock. But Maggie can't shake the feeling that something terrible is about to happen to Emma. And then, just as Maggie starts to relax, her daughter disappears. The clues are disturbing. An empty dorm room where Emma was supposedly living. A mysterious boy described as Future Husband in her phone. Dormmates who seem more sinister than friendly.
