Don't expect a continuous storyline, but these are great bits of quick fiction. Great lore if you like the dark angels.

Story
Inheriting your uncle's supervillain business is more complicated than you might think. Particularly when you discover who's running the place. Charlie's life is going nowhere fast. A divorced substitute teacher living with his cat in a house his siblings want to sell, all he wants is to open a pub downtown, if only the bank will approve his loan. Then his long-lost uncle Jake dies and leaves his supervillain business (complete with island volcano lair) to Charlie. But becoming a supervillain isn't all giant laser death rays and lava pits.

Brilliant and funny

My biggest criticism of the story is a spoiler:
This book wraps up into a neat little package like a heist movie, which don't get me wrong is not a bad thing! The problem is this book is a potato chip, I've had one and now I want more.
The narration from Wil is borderline perfect, he captures the quirky nature of the story wonderfully. if you need an easy to listen to book with no commitment to a saga then this is for you.

Great story, but the blurb spoils the whole book
Reviewed: 22-02-2024
I mean, we can extrapolate who the other outworlder is from context of the story, but announcing it there removed the showmanship of doing the slow reveal throughout the book. The book is genuinely hilarious, and I'm sure that's just my Aussie humour but still.

He "said"
Reviewed: 14-01-2024
look, if you can get behind "said" being the primary method in which the characters communicate, no chuckling, retorting, growling, muttering or anything of that nature the surrounding story is absolutely fantastic.

Should be in a higher age bracket
Reviewed: 31-07-2021
The story in of itself is good, however it is better suited to a 12+ age category given some of the content. Definitely wouldn't recommend for the 8-10 year old range.

Things are not well within the Lodrak Empire. An entire city goes up in smoke and ash, and an entire province is slowly being consumed by an ever-expanding cloud of death. But while the humans rally to contain the fallout of this disaster, they are much quicker to pin the blame for it on their elven neighbors to the north. With centuries' worth of strife and bad blood between the two nations flaring up, all out war is rapidly becoming an inevitability.
