Story
This powerful and moving story explains how a large corporation, Purdue, encouraged small-town doctors to prescribe OxyContin to a country already awash in painkillers. The drug's dangerously addictive nature was hidden, whilst many used it as an escape, to numb the pain of of joblessness and the need to pay the bills. Macy tries to answer a grieving mother's question - why her only son died - and comes away with a harrowing tale of greed and need.

Heartbreakingly sad but necessary reading. Many parts had me close to tears, a very interesting companion to the excellent TV series.

Really enjoyed this, the first of the author’s that I’ve read. It’s not too thriller-y, but just a well-paced novel and an easy listen. Will check out more of Wainwright’s books. Voice actor was great and managed the accents perfectly!

Story
Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn't exist. After all, life isn't a scene from the movies, is it? But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man whom she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic...and then her bus drives away. Laurie thinks she'll never see the boy from the bus again. But at their Christmas party a year later, her best friend, Sarah, introduces her to the new love of her life. Who is, of course, the boy from the bus.

Only okay…

The story itself is absolute romantic fantasy - falling in love with someone you lock eyes with for a moment and then pining for that person forever. A bit ridiculous but mindlessly enjoyable enough. The guy, Jack, is a bit of a twat so not sure exactly what redeeming features he has and why he had two women crazy for him at one stage.
Female narration was good but the male narrator was horrible! Came across as downright creepy and sex-pest-ish which I think was part of the reason I loathed his character.
If you’re after a brainless bit of fun then this is perfect for that. I nearly gave up at the start but sort of glad I persisted.

I found this hard to get into and almost gave up but glad I didn’t as the twist and ending are fantastic, and really hooked me in! Will be sure to check out more of the authors work. Not sure I like the narrator but was manageable!

Excellent novel and brilliant narration

Loved this! I’m a big fan of Robotham’s work and this was no exception. Some of the subject matter is tough to listen to (involving child abuse) but it is never done to sensationalise or cheapen. But major plus points for the narrator too - does the different voices so well and felt more like a radio play than an audiobook. Now on the lookout for more of his audiobook narrations!

Really enjoyed this for a cute, easy listen for my commute. The characters were interesting and engaging and the relationship between Eileen and Leena was wonderful. Some bits predictable but nevertheless an excellent book. Excellent narration too!
