Fascinating tale that brings the past to life

I loved the details setting things in context and the explanation of disease. Following each skeleton and grave site through a process which explains the effects on function and the social context of an illness or skeletal deformation.

Story
Why did Agatha Christie spend her career pretending that she was 'just' an ordinary housewife, when clearly she wasn't? As Lucy Worsley says, 'She was thrillingly, scintillatingly modern'. Her life was 'modern' too: she went surfing in Hawaii, she loved fast cars, and she was intrigued by the new science of psychology, which helped her through devastating mental illness. So why—despite all the evidence to the contrary—did Agatha present herself as a retiring Edwardian lady of leisure?

Confusing and a bit over blood thirsty

I enjoyed the characterisations and the setting. I found the description of the murders overly vivid and blood thirsty. It made me feel unsettled. The twist at the end was interesting. Overall the book made me feel sad.

Way to much tense tapping
Reviewed: 29-08-2022
I saw early on what was likely to be the connection. Whilst it was cleverly done the narration let it down. There was no change of expression in the voice no characterisation. I got fed up with the detective tapping. I am sure there were loose ends that were left untied.

Story
The British wars began on the morning of 23 July 1637, heralding 200 years of battles. Most were driven by religious or political conviction, as Republicans and Royalists, Catholics and Protestants, Tories and Whigs, and colonialists and natives vied for supremacy. Of the battles not fought on home territory, many took place across Europe, America, India, and also at sea. Schama's examination of this turbulent period reveals how the British people eventually united in imperial enterprise, forming 'Britannia Incorporated'.

Story
Ten percent of people whose hearts stop and then restart report near-death experiences. Stories of lights, tunnels and reunion with late loved ones have been relayed - and dismissed - since ancient times. But when Dr Bruce Greyson's patients started describing events that he simply could not dismiss, he began to investigate. In After, he shares the scientific revelations of four decades of research into the dying process. He has become increasingly convinced that dying is less an ending than a transition, the threshold between one form of consciousness and another.
