Story
When the young half-goblin emperor Maia sought to learn who had set the bombs that killed his father and half-brothers, he turned to an obscure resident of his Court, a Prelate of Ulis and a Witness for the Dead. Thara Celehar found the truth, though it did him no good to discover it. Now he lives in the City of Amalo, far from the Court though not exactly in exile. He has not escaped from politics, but his position gives him the ability to serve the common people of the city, which is his preference.

Story
A small town where pickup trucks rule, the farmer's market is bigger than the grocery store, and just about everyone goes to church on Sunday is the last place Henley Warren expects to find herself three months after her grandmother's death. But Gran left a list of things she needed Henley to do after she died, and fulfilling those wishes means spending a summer in the same place her mom fled from when she was only seventeen years old. With each task that is ticked off the list, events are set in motion that uncover secrets surrounding Henley's life.

Not quite the HEA…
Reviewed: 06-05-2023
I chose this for light hearted escapism. Spoilers. Was perturbed by the controlling behaviour exhibited by the love interest. She’s not allowed to socialise or spend time with other men, even her own brother? This was never addressed fully and when the book finished I was left not thinking that she got her HEA, rather a relationship where she faced dealing with increasing coercive control. There were a few other problematic situations as well e.g., the saintly grandmother talking someone out of their health care choice.
The narrator was very talented.

Story
From 1931 to 1953, there was a race like no other. It was a race to the top of the world - a race primarily between Great Britain, Nazi Germany and the United States. Carried on across nearly the entire sweep of the Himalayas, it involved not only the greatest mountain climbers of the era, but statesmen and millionaires, world-class athletes and bona fide eccentrics, scientists and generals, obscure villagers and national heroes.

Highly informative and entertaining book. The level of research that Ellsworth had to do boggles my mind. I’ll definitely listen to this audio book again and again. Thanks to the author, what a talent.

Anti-fatness is everywhere. In What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Fat, Aubrey Gordon unearths the cultural attitudes and social systems that have led to people being denied basic needs because they are fat and calls for social justice movements to be inclusive of plus-sized people’s experiences.

Some things are easily forgiven. Other things...not so much. Lenny DeMaio made herself a promise: She was done. Done thinking about him. Done worrying about him. Done reaching out to a man who clearly didn’t want to be found. Too bad no one gave Jonah Collins the memo.

I was waiting impatiently for this audio book, as I do with all this author’s books. As a New Zealander I was also nervous to see how the kiwi accent of the male protagonist would be handled. Delighted to find that narrator Calum Gittins is a talented NZ actor and his performance worked splendidly with Callie Dalton’s usual high standard of narration.

Online sensation, fearless feminist heroine and scourge of trolls and misogynists everywhere, Clementine Ford is a beacon of hope and inspiration to thousands of Australian women and girls. Her incendiary debut, Fight Like a Girl, is an essential manifesto for feminists new, old and soon to be and exposes just how unequal the world continues to be for women.

Passionate and inspiring. Clementine is an exceptional writer and this feminist book is my favourite book to date. And I read A LOT. Thanks Clementine for dissecting the patriarchy and giving me the courage to continue the fight for our rights. I use many of your suggestions to combat trolls and encourage women I know to give no beebs when men are being beebs. My 14 year old daughter listened with me and we LOLed at many places. I will return to this book again and again.

Story
'Women are told, from birth, that it's our job to be small: physically small, small in our presence, and small in our impact on the world. We're supposed to spend our lives passive, quiet and hungry. I want to obliterate that expectation....' Guardian columnist Lindy West wasn't always loud. It's difficult to believe she was once a nerdy, overweight teen who wanted nothing more than to be invisible. Fortunately for women everywhere, along the road she found her voice - and how she found it!

Hardcore Self Help: F--k Anxiety is for those of us who find the prospect of reading a traditional self-help book to be way too boring. How are you supposed to make positive changes in your life if the book itself feels like a chore? This audiobook is definitely not a chore.
In Hardcore Self Help: F--k Anxiety, I talk to you like a friend. There is lots of swearing and humor but also loads of helpful and actionable information.

Funny and entertaining read about a boring subject
Reviewed: 20-09-2015
We're all totally bored about our anxiety right? This book makes it interesting and you feel ok about your condition. I recommend this book to anyone suffering from anxiety, or Frank as the author calls his. The narrator/author/Dr is easy to listen to, understands and normalises anxiety. I felt like I was part of wider community reading this book, instead of alone with the miserable physiological and psychological symptoms of anxiety. The simple breathing exercise has made a world of difference and I feel a lot better. I will listen to this again and again.
