Story
The politics of empire-building and the hypocrisies, back-stabbings, and corruptions of Rome's first family come to light. First published in 1934, the book retains a marvelously modern and often comic tone, and is written in the form of Claudius' autobiography. This is gripping stuff, read by one of our finest actors, who also starred as Claudius in the classic television series.

Story
In 1947, when this pamphlet was written, the ghastly memory of the Holocaust was fresh in the public mind. The author explores this climatic catastrophe of racial persecution to reveal it not as an anomalous occurrence, but rather as the evidence of a form of institutionalized prejudice which had operated for more than a millennium. “Humanity,” McCabe argues, “will enter into full and friendly cooperation only when the myths disappear and pure humanism is the base of man’s standard of conduct.”

Information outdated, with a superficial touch on the history of antisemitism, as expected from a booklet. It's a product of its time that has not aged very well. Moreover, the narrator makes it boring and difficult to follow in some occasions.

Story
There’s plenty of nostalgia right now for the Australia of the past, but what was it really like? In The Land Before Avocado, Richard Glover takes a journey to an almost unrecognisable Australia. It’s a vivid portrait of a quite peculiar land: a place that is scary and weird, dangerous and incomprehensible, and now and then surprisingly appealing. It’s the Australia of his childhood. The Australia of the late '60s and early '70s. Let’s break the news now: they didn’t have avocado.

This is an interesting book about going down through memory lane and remember how things were without falling into nostalgia. It's a great narration, showingbus the evolution of Australia, hoe it changed.from the 70s and how that change has been mostly positive. As a Venezuelan, I found fascinating comparing stories from that time and notice how we differ and what we have in common.

Story

The Bolsheviks promised that they were building a new society, a workers’ paradise that would change the nature of mankind itself. What they ended up constructing was the largest prison the world had ever seen: a Union of Soviet Socialist Republics that spanned half the globe.

This is a summary of the Soviet Union's history, showing many of its dark secrets: torture, imprisonment, and oppression. It tells the story of its rise and fall, the people in the West who willingly supported it, and let themselves to be lied by it. It tries to show the whole picture as much as possible, not only in the East but in the West as well, ending with a note filled with hope.
Not many people are aware of the horrors of communism, and this book is a great reminder. My only complaint is the narration starts a bit monotone in the first chapter but keeps improving, becoming excellent in the third chapter and remaining at that level until the end.

Story

How did communism become such a pervasive economic and political philosophy? Why did it first take root in early 20th-century Russia? These and other questions are part of a fascinating story whose drama has few equals in terms of sheer scale, scope, or human suffering and belief. These 12 lectures invite you to go inside communism’s journey from a collection of political and economic theories to a revolutionary movement that rocked the world.

Story
Gender identity ideology is about more than Twitter storms and using the right pronouns. In just 10 years, laws, company policies, school and university curricula, sport, medical protocols, and the media have been reshaped to privilege self-declared gender identity over biological sex. People are being shamed and silenced for attempting to understand the consequences of redefining "man" and "woman". While compassion for transgender lives is well-intentioned, it is stifling much-needed inquiry into the significance of our bodies.

This book is an excellent follow-up to 'Kitchen Confidential'. Narrated by Bourdain himself, the book has all with wit and ingenuity, showing us what has changed since he published his opus and how his life changed while working on TV. For fans, this is a treat. However, part of the spark is loss in some chapters, with some stories and rants too long and detailed to make them entertaining. However, a nice book with an excellent narration.

Story
After 25 years of 'sex, drugs, bad behaviour and haute cuisine', Chef and novelist Anthony Bourdain decided to tell all. From his first oyster in the Gironde to his lowly position as a dishwasher in a honky-tonk fish restaurant in Provincetown; from the kitchen of the Rainbow Room atop the Rockefeller Center to drug dealers in the East Village, from Tokyo to Paris and back to New York again, Bourdain's tales of the kitchen are as passionate as they are unpredictable, as shocking as they are funny.

The book is peppered with anecdotes, cooking advice and know-how about the business. Highly recommended to fans of his shows, and those who love food.
