Story
When Heather McKinley dreamed of becoming a doctor, she imagined curing sick kids and sporting pink stethoscopes. She never anticipated the sleepless nights, grueling exams, and endless labs. And she certainly never knew that her medical school earned the nickname Dead Med thanks to the tragic history of students overdosing on illegal drugs. But Heather would never consider doing anything like that. That is, until her longtime boyfriend dumps her, she finds herself failing anatomy, and her world starts to crumble.

Story
Girls like Neve Slater don’t get gorgeous guys like William. But William’s been in L A for three years, and Neve’s been slimming down in preparation for his return. Then her sister Celia points out that if Neve wants William to think she's an experienced love-goddess then she’d better get some experience - a man to show her the ropes, like Celia’s colleague Max. And since he’s not Neve’s type, she certainly won’t fall for him...

I ADORE this!!!
Reviewed: 22-09-2024
I have listened to this more times than I can count. It’s such a beautiful story. It’s literally got everything I look for in a book. It’s funny, spicy, not too short. Max is such a good book boyfriend too. I love the narrator, and the way she voices each character. I wish there was a sequel to this.

Story
You probably already know my name. Lucy Chase, the woman who doesn’t remember murdering her best friend. Even though they couldn’t find enough evidence to charge me, I know you all think I did it. That’s OK. I realise being found wandering the streets the next day covered in her blood wasn't a great look. Believe me, I’m as frustrated as you are. I’d love to know if I’m a murderer – it’s the sort of thing you really should know about yourself, isn’t it? And now, thanks to true-crime podcast Listen for the Lie, I finally have the chance to find out.

Good, short thriller

Great, short thriller makes easy listening. I’m not sure the massive cast and production values add to the experience, but it’s fine.

Very good thriller, TERRIBLE narrator
Reviewed: 22-09-2024
This narrator ruins what is a great thriller. Lots of twists, not sure who to trust etc, however the narrator sounds bizarrely aggressive and kind of like and old-timey news reader. Awful.
The author herself posted in a Facebook group that she has begged the audiobook company to change the narrator but they refuse.

I just met my new son-in-law . . . And he’s my ex-husband. They’re here. I watch them arrive from the kitchen window. My pregnant daughter and her new husband. They’ve barely known each other six months. I greet him with a tight smile that he recognizes as fake. Luke is no good for my beautiful, fragile Cerys. He’ll break her heart. I know that because he broke mine — when he was married to me. I don’t know what he’s after. But I’m going to make it my business to find out.

Great book, absolutely moronic main character

This is a great book. The author is fantastic and the narrators are very good. But one of the main characters is hands down the most moronic person I have ever come across. I found myself saying out aloud “what?! No!! Come on!!!” More than once.
Again, great book etc. Frustrating main character.

Story
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

So hard to get into

I first read The Perfect Lie and was immediately gripped, so I expected the same from this book. I’m halfway through and nothing interesting has happened at all. I don’t normally stop reading a book before I’ve finished but I may have to make an exception here. Cannot understand the rave reviews. Even if it picks up in the second half, the first half is so boring. Yawn

Frustrating
Reviewed: 19-02-2019
I love Sophie Kinsella, but I found this book frustrating and I struggled to finish it. The main character is supposed to be all about “fixing” everything, but I found her to be infuriatingly weak and boring. Right up until the end she relies on others to give her what she thinks she deserves.
Plot is slow, and a non eventful.
