Story
Frederick Fife was born with an extra helping of kindness in his heart. If he borrowed your car he'd return it washed and polished, with a full tank of petrol. The problem is, he has no one left to borrow from. At 82 he's desperately lonely, broke and on the brink of homelessness. But Fred's luck changes when, in a bizarre case of mistaken identity, he takes the place of cranky Bernard Greer at Wattle River Nursing Home. Suddenly he has a roof over his head, warm meals in his belly and, most importantly, the chance to be part of a family again.

Not for me

I’m glad I didn’t use a credit on this book but if I had, I would have returned it.
Our main protagonist is really irritating. Initially I thought it was just the narrator, who actually is irritating, but then I realised that if she said “but she’s my BEST FRIEND” one more time, I’d scream.
Sorry, I really like Sarah Denzil’s work but this one wasn’t for me.

… than the first in this series. Although still an US Army Ranger superhero, Travis Devine has matured and grown into his investigative role and is far more believable. Great story, with excellent branches off the main plot.
A little repetitive/predictable with Devine always being taken on by 3 bad guys… never 2 or 4, always 3.
Female narrators were very good, male not so much - very monotone, with little intonation.
Overall a good book and would recommend it.

I have to agree with fellow reviewers that this narrator ‘could do a lot better’. All his female characters sounded pathetic and the same, I couldn’t differentiate between them. Bain would never be in a senior role, be as single minded, treat his staff so badly or run an investigation in today’s force.
With a little work the Cullen character could flesh out into a lot more. I will try book 2… 🤞🤞

This is the second book I’ve listened to by this author and I liked it just as much as the first.
Both books scattered the pieces of the story… each contributing piece has a story of its own, those pieces are gradually and masterfully pulled together to a finale.
I definitely recommend this author, her work is outstanding.

Masterful story
Reviewed: 15-10-2024
Again an excellent book in the Myran Bolitar series, thanks to the so very talented Harlan Coben. Thoroughly hooked and loving working my way through the audiobook series… until I got to this one… Can’t fault the author, the wonderful cast of characters and the way they work so well together but, the narrator has changed and he is ‘not good’.
Win is certainly not Win. Gone is the ivy league, moneyed, refined, highly educated, suave and privileged accent - he now sounds like a prepubescent teenager. Myron’s mother has been replaced by a native New Yorker with a very strong Jewish accent. Don’t get me started on Big Cindy! I loved the way she oozed (in a very deep) “Miss-ter Bolllitaaaar” - not in this book.
Love your work, Mr Coben; this narrator does not do it justice.
