Story
Molly the maid is all alone in the world. A nobody. She’s used to being invisible in her job at the Regency Grand Hotel, plumping pillows and wiping away the grime, dust and secrets of the guests passing through. She’s just a maid—why should anyone take notice? But Molly is thrown into the spotlight when she discovers an infamous guest, Mr Black, very dead in his bed. This isn’t a mess that can be easily cleaned up.

Boring little tale

Everything was a little off - the story felt like it should be set in London but other aspects were American. The characters were very one dimensional and there was nothing particularly interesting about Molly. All round pretty dull & boring.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late. But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am. They don’t know what I’m capable of....

Story
If, like Kane, you're a Denied Access Area spy for the CIA, then boundaries have no meaning. Your function is to go in, do whatever is required, and get out again - by whatever means necessary. You know when to run, when to hide - and when to shoot. But some places don't play by the rules. Some places are too dangerous, even for a man of Kane's experience. The badlands where the borders of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan meet are such a place - a place where violence is the only way to survive.

Not sure whether this is meant to be an espionage thriller or fantasy but it isn’t good! Had to listen at 1.2x (thank goodness it was suggested in another review) to get through the drawl! Story is jumbled and disconnected - should have been a lot shorter & it just lost its way! No where near as good as I Am Pilgrim!

In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. Jane Bancroft has returned to Lovett, Tasmania after 20 years away, minus one ex-husband but plus one outraged teenage daughter. Life in the city – life in general – hasn’t quite panned out as she would have liked. With her mother unwell, now seems as good a time as any to come back to where it all began, and perhaps even start a new life here in the heart of Tasmanian apple country. But the legacy of Jane's wild apple youth has not been forgotten by small-town Lovett and her homecoming is haunted by past tragedy.

Then you’ll love this but it was pretty weak if you were expecting more! I love Danielle Cormack’s voice but there were a number of mispronunciations in the narration and I hated her rendition of Thea’s “voice”. Overall it was pretty disappointing so I’m glad I didn’t actually pay for it!

A Nigerian-born detective sergeant working for the Metropolitan Police is found unconscious in her own flat and ends up in hospital, where she dies of her injury. The post-mortem reveals that the subdural hematoma is the result of a blow to her head. DI Thomas Lynley, DS Barbara Havers and DS Winston Nkata are called in to investigate a case that touches upon not only the work and the life of the murdered detective but also upon a controversial cultural tradition that damages and often destroys the future of everyone it involves.

Great story but didn’t like the narrator
Reviewed: 01-02-2022
Another great story from Elizabeth George but I really didn’t like the narrator. Her characters voices weren’t always great - women often sounded like a whining child, Lynley’s voice was all wrong and some of the African voices were also off. In addition, there were some “phone conversations” where one side was “missing” - just patches of silence. This happened in a particularly important part in Chapter 22.
