Working as overnight tech support, James Lyle has long said he’d do anything to escape the boredom. Quite unique
Reviewed: 17-11-2024
I never really write reviews but I feel this book is so unique it kind of deserves a review.
Description mentions "litrpg", I wouldn't call it that. This is as a what if real life people encounter say a way into SCP-3008 Infinite Ikea (if it were an office) with a lot of SCP like elements, space anomalies, sci-fi elements and cosmic horror. Instead of litrpg stats, there's skill orbs that give very random memories/skills.
It did get a bit repeditive in the middle which is why I dropped it, picked it up later and it gets surprisingly good with a twist and world building towards the end. I would recommend this.

Story
She's unlike any one or any thing else: a Non-Standard Leashed-Intelligence Cybernetic Enforcer aka NSLICE-00P. The first of her kind, she's let loose into a universe of superheroes on behalf of her sinister masters to destroy all who oppose them. And everything's going according to plan—until NSLICE-00P gets hacked and sent into the past to kill her own creator before he creates her. Obeying orders as always, she wastes the poor guy. Unfortunately, there are consequences to initiating a reality-breaking time paradox. The most significant: total ejection from that reality.

Could have been good
Reviewed: 14-10-2024
There. is. just. so. much. filler. I. can't.
Typical chapter: 4-12min random isekai quote/information (why?), then some story, then 7-12mins of stats/level up info (just a copy paste of the last chapters with updated levels). So each chapter only has about half the time spent on the actual story making it a slog to get through.
The story pace was decent at the start then slows down after she gets monster companions, insert generic dull leveling here for the monsters while repeating the same rat joke over and over, its pretty unamusing.
If the filler was cut, the leveling info was abbreviated and there was more time on the story/progress this could be a decent novel. But it just became too much of a slog which is a bit of a shame since this could have been good.

Not a bog standard fantasy, there's a decent amount of world building and progression. My only complaint is there's only two books in the series.

Soo much unnecessary waffling

This is an interesting story, but the author just waffles on and on, long explanations, filler info, repeating info, long explainations in the middle of fights... ended up skipping 3-4 hours due to this and the 2nd books reviews also mention this so unfortunately I plan to drop this series even though it does seem quite good otherwise.

Quite enjoyed the story, skipped through about 3 hours of fillter though. Narrator I quite liked overall but they added strange pauses and delays between words which made no sense and ruined the pacing of several parts.

Story
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Far too much retrospective
Reviewed: 15-01-2024
Don't get me wrong the story is a bit slow though it's fine, but there was far too much retrospective (4 hours+) on his old training days, etc. The retrospective is a dull overview rather than anything remotely exciting/resembling a story which is a shame. I planned to drop the series, though the the higher reviews in the following books make this seem like a non issue.

MC is powerful but doesn't feel completely overpowered, progression is at a nice pace and there's good writing. Didn't expect any major emotion from the MC and there really isn't any so don't expect any deep character arcs.

I really enjoyed this story, I usually find this genre a bit hit or miss but thankfully the author came through towards the end.
The narrator was a little strange about the female voices but not too distracting.

Long winded and dull.
Reviewed: 04-02-2023
Cliche premise op main character goes back to the start, grim-dark premise where the character reverts to a fumbling teenager but he doesn't use any of his future knowledge other than leaking info to the public and basic stuff.
Unnecessarily long explanations, you could no joke skip half the chapters and not miss a thing. The story is dry, just like the characters which are dull and may as well be robots. Conversations are filler filler filler and have no personality or life, perhaps some of the worst I've read.
Lots and lots of world building and grinding if that's your thing. Some good action scenes then it went back to slice-of-life, totally doesn't fit the story's description. The narrator's voice killed it for me, but maybe that's just me. I'm not sure why this is so highly rated, I guess if you can handle skipping the conversations and long winded explanations it wouldn't be as bad.
