Story
The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler's armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.

Overrated, long winded, cringe, cliche
Reviewed: 28-05-24
30 hours of my life I won’t get back. Really do not understand the hype around this book… not inclined to read the rest of the trilogy.
Characters frustrating, a bit pathetic and I lost count from the amount of times I rolled my eyes at the cringeworthy moments in this story,
The narrator was the only positive thing about this - managing to bring some character to the people in the story.
An unforgettable listen for all of the wrong reasons.
If you like a bit of predictable, long winded waffle. Then this is the book for you.

Enjoyable listen! Not sure what I was expecting but it wasn’t as ‘dirty’ as I thought it was going to be from the hearsay I’d heard around its release. No matter, still an enjoyable listen of all about her life and adventures.

Last year, Rachel Bacharach met the man of her dreams at a Hanukkah party — and then her outgoing best friend Tamara swooped in and “called” Oz Caplan for herself.
