Story
'Evan. It's your mother. I heard you help people....' Evan Smoak used to be known as Orphan X: a figure as elusive as a rumour, until he came to the rescue of those who most desperately needed his help. The kind of help no one else could provide. The kind that caused concern in the corridors of power. As a boy he'd been plucked from a foster home and trained as an off-the-books assassin inside a top secret US government programme. Which is why, even forced into early retirement, he dare not trust the phone call.

Does not disappoint

I enjoyed this even more than the stories of the Seven Sisters, so cleverly bringing everything together. A great stand alone listen and even better if you have listened to the preceding books. I was glad it was so well written and narrated that I didn't stop to think whether it was Lucinda or her son who wrote any particular part. A great read

I read this first when I was 15. Loved the book, loved the film and was hesitant to listen in case it didn't live up to my own expectations but Jim Fyfe nailed it.
A great listen from a great author and I only just learned she was 16 when she wrote it. Amazing insights

Authentic and cleverly observed
Reviewed: 29-04-20
I loved this book, it's characters and the settings, for its authenticity and well observed accuracy.
Really just a story of every day life with its many twists and curves that most of us go through in one sense or another.
The portrayal of the photos and hash tags with the real story behind them was such a clever idea and really illustrated the story and its message so well.
I love the balanced view throughout that shows the different angles of thoughts and feelings and of how we react inside our heads in contrast to what we do at times.
Just a throughly good read.
Thank you Kerry

One of his best

Another really entertaining novel where there is no way you can work out the twists and turns so you are kept guessing right until the end.
Much appears to have been made by other reviewers of the fact it is a female lead and it doesn't quite sit right or Maya is not an authentic character. As a woman, I thought he got it spot on. You would not be able to well whether the author was a man or a woman if you had not read one of Harlan's books previously. I am not sure what many men are expecting from a female character or what they really think women are like.
Well impressed and enjoyable

Story
It is fire season and the hills of Los Angeles are burning. As the Police and Fire Departments evacuate the inhabitants, they find something no one expected: the days-old corpse of a middle-aged recluse who apparently committed suicide. Then comes an even more horrible discovery. Clutched in his lap is a photo album containing photographs of seven young women who have been murdered. Each photograph was taken only moments after the women were killed and could only have been taken by the killer.
