Not the best.
Reviewed: 12-01-23
While still an enjoyable story, especially if you are a fan of the overarching law and other series, this was the hardest audiobook to get through. A large part of this for me was the two narrator and the decision to shift back and forth between perspectives. It was very jarring and destroyed the emersion. Regarding the narrative this was generally okay, but a bit preachy at times.
Overall worth the credit if your a fan of Rowe, but not a place to start.

A slow start, but, it never dips. A consistently great listen. However, there are dark moments and they can be triggering for some listeners. Not for the feint of heart, but a great book.

Back on form
Reviewed: 21-12-22
The last few books felt a bit lost and led me to struggle being as invested in the character developement as I once was. However, this one's a return to form. The story seemed to develop in unexpected ways, and the 80's weirdness and humour was well placed throughout.

Honestly, it's becoming a struggle to keep going..

The series is just becoming very waffly and I don't have faith in the storyline. This is actually the first time I've felt propelled to write a review mid way through a book. I think that's actually quite telling. The only reason I'm going to continue with it is because I hate leaving things unfinished, but I doubt it will be enjoyable.

It's a good story that continues the already established narrative, but there is nothing new. I actually finished this story a bit bored for the first time in the series, which was very disappointing. I hope it improves.
It's still the credit, but don't expect greatness.

Once you get past the slightly annoying voice acting of a small child, it becomes an excellent and well-thought-out narrative, with brilliant characterisation and a unique take on a old trope.

Ive listened to, and read, a lot in this genre and this is up there in my top 5. While it still early in the series at only book one, it has great potential and I'm very curious to see if this quality persists. I doubt any fan of this type of work will leave dissapointed.

While the story progresses well, and the characters continue to be interesting, this productions lacks synergy. The female and male narrations clash to much, and it results in dyscordic listening.
