What a shame about the music, completely ruined
Reviewed: 17-11-24
Was really looking forward to listening to this, but even after half a dozen attempts- I just can’t bear the brash delivery & the “background” music.
So disappointed & too late to return the title so it serves as a lesson I guess.

Story
Rare-book dealer Ashlyn Greer’s affinity for books extends beyond the intoxicating scent of old paper, ink, and leather. She can feel the echoes of the books’ previous owners—an emotional fingerprint only she can read. When Ashlyn discovers a pair of beautifully bound volumes that appear to have never been published, her gift quickly becomes an obsession. Not only is each inscribed with a startling incrimination, but the authors, Hemi and Belle, tell conflicting sides of a tragic romance.

Accomplished, eloquent writing. Complex and well staged mystery full of diverse characters. Authentic, researched background, always convincing & yet enthralling in its possibilities.
Beautifully read by Jenny Agutter. I would thoroughly recommend this novel. There are no disappointments, no odd holes, everything is woven perfectly woven together.
Wholesome stuff.

I read the Duncton Chronicles over 25 years ago & thoroughly enjoyed the stories, William Horwood is one of the most creative & poetic authors I’ve read, his books are masterpieces.
Listening to his work read by one person whose responsibility was the creation of characters I thought I knew personally made me a little anxious, as I’d been very disappointed with other authors’ epics.
Gareth Armstrong has produced Moledom with colour and love, humility, courage & compassion. I love Mayweed, always did but now he’s taken on a new molenailty altogether 😊
You’ll feel the Sussex earth beneath your feet, smell the Yorkshire rain and yearn to look up at Tryfan’s rocky summit- the journey is one which far outstretches the medium of moles.
5 stars are not enough.

Not the deep poetic feel that other Jo Jo novels have. Still, I read Me Before You & then After You & although a bit too chick flick for my normal taste, I did enjoy walking with her through the trials. I particularly admire the supporting cast, they are so real you forget it’s a novel sometimes.
I really enjoyed Louisa’s story but sometimes felt I wanted to kick her up the backside. Then I read Still Me. This is an honest masterpiece, beautifully written and makes no apology for tears, laughter or a few somewhat predictable results. We all want to be Cinderella but these days we’d like to be able to change the wheel on the crystal coach ourselves. Here I read humility, courage, a grown up Louisa and met somebody I know I’d like to get to know. That’s so satisfying. Jo Jo Moyes is amazing & I’m a fussy individual.
Anna Acton is Louisa, a seriously grand job.

Narration was excellent from an intuitive and authentic actress. A complex plot but well driven if a little predictable- but after a lifetime of Morse and Sherlock, it’s sometimes hard to miss the villain! All credit to the author, a tough subject handled very well indeed without pulling punches. I was a little surprised that we got more than we expected in the villainy and then reminded myself that it is a work of fiction destined to capture & entertain so I found myself cheering quietly for the good guys anyway. Aidan is a down to earth creation with true depths and the surrounding cast are appropriately pitched to keep him in exactly the right focus throughout.
Brilliant.

This was riveting from start to finish. It dared to push boundaries and to allow the reader to voice silent opinions, whilst keeping mystery all the way along. Never tedious, and the narration was brilliant. I had a film in my head with Sean Bean in the title role, such was the vivid descriptive power of the book.
Brilliantly written, strong stuff. By 'eck it's worth downloading.
